“Why am I writing books in my old age? Who am I trying to impress? Why go on? the answer is fear of golf.”
David Taylor

“I think the best books are those that give you a kick in the intellect and then make you laugh aloud.”
David Taylor, The Queen's Cipher

“My next book will be about a sado-masochist who talks about himself in the third person. Shades of James and Mantel.”
David Taylor, The Queen's Cipher

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.”
Francis Bacon, The Essays

“The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool.”
William Shakespeare, As You Like It
