The Aztecs, which originated from Northern Mexico, were forced to keep moving around because of their defeats during battles. Until they officially settled in The Valley Of Mexico and started building their army. When the Aztecs arrived along with their ruler, Tlaoni, people were already living there so they had to build their empire in the middle of an island called Lake Texcoo. "A tlatoani had complete and unlimited power over the government and army and ruled for life" (Apte 20). Which was not such a bad thing because they were surrounded by water which protected them from many attacks causing them to become the most powerful city in The Valley Of Mexico. However, since they did not have access to the land anymore, routes were built connecting their island to land, these routes were called Causeways. The Aztecs were polytheistic, they worshiped gods such as the gods of rain, water, corn war, life, nature etc.. but their most important god was the god of the dead, Mictlantecuhtli. They worshiped their gods by praying, playing music and offering gifts.The Aztec Empire contained 10 million people including a very strong army, their capital was Tenochtitlan. Workers such as farmers, artisans and Merchants also known as Macehualtin grew crops on fertile land called chinampas. While men fought battles, the women would stay at home and do things such as cooking and weaving clothes for her family. "Women learned how to weave at young age so that they could make clothes for their families" (Apte 27). The Aztecs ate food such as corn tortillas, Chili Peppers, tomatoes, beans, squash, avocados, and turkey. Back then, cacao seeds were brought from so far away that they were almost sacred, the hot chocolates made from them were only for wealthy people. The Aztec Empire was founded in 1325 C.E and took over by Spain in 1521 C.E.

The Book “The Aztec empire” was a really interesting book full of facts. Today I will be listing 5 of the most important fact I learned. First, the Aztec Empire was one of the only empires to use a 365-day calendar. Another interesting fact from the book was that the Aztec flag symbol was an eagle. In Total, The Aztec Empire had 11 rulers and their language, Nahuatl is still used today in some parts of Mexico. Lastly, the Aztecs played board games that included a dice made out of dried beans and an X-shaped board. My favorite photograph from this book would most definitely be the cover of the book because it is a picture of their god of death which was viewed as their most important god. I know this book is a non- fiction book because it talks about the creation and the ending of The Aztec Empire which was one of the most important empires in history.

Reading about The Aztec Empire was really interesting however there were some parts of the book that I did not enjoy. My favorite part of the book was when they talked about their religion’s polytheism because I find that really interesting. The fact that they believed in many gods even gods such as the god of corn is really fascinating. However, my least favorite part of the book was when Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1821 because suddenly all of the Aztec cultures vanished. I would recommend this book to middle schoolers who like social studies and would enjoy a good history book. ...more "

Edward talks about the sun’s power, winds, the ocean, clouds, storms, lightning, blizzards, floods, tornados, droughts and weather forecasting. Earth is fueled by the sun’s power, the sun’s energy warms the earth and allows it to be alive. Depending on a lot of things the wind can be either very strong or very gentle or maybe in between, but wind the source that carries the warmth around the earth. The Wind is blown across the ocean, this is the process that causes waves. There are 5 types of clouds, Cumulus clouds, shelf clouds, funnel clouds, lenticular clouds and cumulonimbus clouds. “The center of the hurricane is called the “eye” where there is very little wind” (Close 18). A lightning bolt can go up to 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Blizzards produce powerful winds, heavy snow, sleet or hail. Animals can survive disastrous droughts or climate changes in general by hibernating. These were some facts for each of the topics in my book.

"All about the weather" by Edward close is a very interesting book that gives a lot of facts. today I will be listing 5 of them to teach you more about the Different types of weather. I always thought that animals could never survive the climate changes once they got used to a certain climate. well I was wrong, animals can survive climate changes like disastrous droughts, animals get used to climates pretty easily, of course, Some faster than others. If they think that the climate will be too extreme for them, then the animal decides to hibernate. Another fact is that tsunamis are not caused by the weather, tsunamis are formed by underwater landslides, tectonic plates or even volcanic eruptions. Another fact was that was really interesting was that lightning usually strikes the highest point such as tall buildings or trees tall trees, it was also sad that New York is struck by lightning around 100 times each year. I always thought that Clouds didn’t have any types, I just thought that clouds were formed differently. actually, there are 5 different types of clouds, the type of clouds then There were cumulus clouds, funnel clouds, lenticular clouds, and the cumulonimbus cloud. The last fact that I will be listing today will be about the ocean. “ giant ocean wave can travel faster than 500 miles per across the ocean and reach a height of 500 miles per hour before hitting the shore” (Close 15). Four words from this book that I found were Drought, blizzard, hurricane and clouds. because they are the types of weather that the author talks about in his book. If I was the Author of this book, I Would call it "Weather" instead of "All about the weather" because the weather is a simple title that makes you understand the whole content of the book by reading one word.

My favorite part of this book was when he talked about how lightning is created because I have always wondered how lighting is formed but never looked it up. During a thunderstorm cloud, lightning is formed by the build-up of mechanical energy in the cloud. “ Lightning usually strikes the highest point, such as tall buildings or a tall tree. The empire state building in New York is struck by lightning approximately 100 times each year” (Close 20) However my least favorite part was when they were talking about the droughts. Droughts aren’t so important compared to what other types of energy can do to the environment. Just the fact that this part of the book was only about animals dying didn’t make it so pleasant to read about. This book was really interesting and you could really tell that the author knew a lot about his topic so I would certainly read another book by this author. I would recommend this book to middle schoolers that are interested in learning more about the weather and how it is predicted. ...more "
