Isabella George is a storyteller and writer of poetry and short stories in a rhythmic lyrical contempo cadence aptly called Versery Rhymes™, and is the published author of the e-book, Reality Poems of the Modern Day, (2014) and the revised edition of that book, Reality Poems (2016). She has been writing for 12 years and is published in several online magazines and blogs, such as The Australia Times Poetry Magazine, Salisonline.org, and Underground books.org. Isabella regularly attends creative writing workshops... and storytelling workshops, conferences, and festivals throughout the South Florida area. She is an active member of the National Association of Black Storytellers and the Florida Storytelling Association.

MY STORY
Storytelling happened for me when the Spirit and Opportunity rovers landed on Mars. It was an amazing mission to see in my lifetime. Vivid memories flashed back from my childhood of the launch of the Explorer 1 satellite, and as a young adult, witnessing the Apollo 11 moon landing. I was excited that we were actually on Mars! Seeing the beautiful pictures in high def beaming back was truly humbling. It was very difficult getting my grandchildren as excited about the rovers as I was, so I began to write about the Mars mission in a poem for them. That got their attention and the rovers became their heroes. We rooted for Opportunity to get out of that hole, and we had fun watching the rovers exploring mar's surface. I wrote verses and they unfolded, and the kids enjoyed the poems. In their generation who knows, someone's address may be "Fourth Planet from the Sun".

Writing that first poem was an epiphany, poetry took control of my life. I began writing about things I saw in the backyard, then the neighborhood, my city, and the world... I find a story in every facet of life, birds, trees, frogs, people, politics, religion and social issues. Everywhere and in everything as we are going through this life, there is a story. I have found my niche, writing the 500 to 1,000-word short story in rhyme.

I am especially influenced by the poetry of Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Edgar Allan Poe, Longfellow's "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere", Ernest Thayer's "Casey at the Bat"; by American Cowboy poetry, the Australian Bush Poetry of Banjo Paterson, and the epic equine themes of Bush poet Kym Eitel.
