Andy Phillips (writing as A.D. Phillips from 2014-2015) is a British author a PhD in Applied Mathematics and a BSc Joint Honours Maths/Physics degree. In a varied career, he has worked as a scientific researcher in the USA, a police intelligence analyst, a data analyst, and a higher education teacher.

From a very young age, he became fascinated with strong female characters — whether good, evil, or somewhere in between — that appeared in action, science fiction, and thriller movies. His favourite era is 1990s direct-to-video, back when VHS tapes and rental stores were still a thing. Determined to tell stories of his own, he wrote five freeware interactive fiction games, and later founded the publishing imprint Action Girl Books.
