Emma Davies once applied for her dream job in the following manner;

'I am a bestselling novelist currently masquerading as a thirty something mother of three.' Well she's now a forty something mother of three, and is working on the rest.

By day she's a finance manager and looks at numbers a lot of the time, but by night she gets to use actual words and practices putting them together into sentences. Her twitter bio says she loves her family, her job, reading, writing, singing loudly in the car, and Pringles, so that must be true then.

Wave to her on twitter @Emdavies68

Letting in Light is her debut novel, and she is currently working on her second.

When they were quite young, sometimes the only time I had was an hour and a half on Sunday mornings when they had their swimming lessons, but I made sure I wrote something every week. Now that they are all in their teens it is easier, and fortunately in my day job I have to be very organised which rubs off a bit at home too. I have to plan to write, and sometimes (not always) the plan comes together! (less)

I have times when things flow better (usually when I'm five minutes from the time I have to stop!) but for the most part I'm usually just so happy to have found the time to write that it spills out. I work full time, have three children and my Mother in Law lives with us , so ours is not a quiet household, desperation is often good motivation!(less)

Back to Basics

Sometimes it feels as if the idea for Letting in Light came just before the dawn of time. Ok, I exaggerate, but in the beginning there was just me, a notebook, and a pencil. I do remember we had a PC, but you almost had to wind it up to get it going, and it was definitely before the Great Age of Broadband. Not only that, but at the time I started writing it, the children were very small and so por Read more of this blog post »

“There isn’t much change in his expression, but I sense a subtle shift, the shutters coming down again. Perhaps it’s just that I know it’s something I do myself, a wariness about giving too much away for fear of an awkward conversation.”
Emma Davies, Letting In Light

“She was almost asleep when she realised what she was doing. She would never let an animal sleep on her bed – the hairs, the germs! She sat up, grasping the dozing cat and, to its disgust, depositing it firmly on the landing”
Emma Davies, The Little Cottage on the Hill

“No worries of the past, no anxieties of the future, just the slow movements of the present, demanding nothing from me save my passage through them.”
Emma Davies, Letting in Light
