Hello Susan,
Thank you! The book began as a three stanza poem dealing with sleeping overnight in various inappropriate places in a city. It snowballed, mostly in reaction to my life at a desk job, into a reflection on schizophrenia, disembodiment, and urbanism. That three stanza poem came back after a while to restructure the book and never really left. The structure was largely inspired by the setting of the book, Los Angeles, but also by Gerard Genette's book 'Paratexts' about the aspects of a book, other than its content, that affect your reading experience. I saw the book as a city, or a place, in this light. As for the writing itself, I just wanted to be in love with it!(less)

Laurence Sterne
“Time wastes too fast : every letter I trace tells me with what rapidity Life follows my pen ; the days and hours of it, more precious, my dear Jenny! than the rubies about thy neck, are flying over our heads like light clouds of a windy day, never to return more -- every thing presses on -- whilst thou are twisting that lock, -- see! it grows grey ; and every time I kiss thy hand to bid adieu, and every absence which follows it, are preludes to that eternal separation which we are shortly to make!”
Tristram Shandy
