The best thing to do I guess is to introduce myself to the Goodreads readership. Well along the path of life’s journey, my most enjoyable writing got started with a collection of short stories called “Honest to God and Other Whoppers – The First Seventy Years”. That was about twelve years ago. Actually, I had started a bit before that – maybe about eighteen – nineteen years back when circumstances caused me to put pen to paper. Quite frankly, I didn’t worry about style or form (I still don’t) in putting these things down. What absolutely amazed me was the collection of information there was stored in my little brain. One story after the other! What an adventure! I got as much pleasure out of writing them as I did in reading what I had written, almost to the exclusion of any other reading. Well, I can’t help it. I really like my stories.
It wasn’t long before I branched out and began writing parables for my grandchildren. What started out as “Stories of Oldman and Youngchild” ended up to be “TruthSeeker”. It was an exercise in learning as opposed to teaching. They could take what resonated with them from my stories and apply it to their own situations.
Well, sooner or later I had to get to more serious stuff, so I did. But I seemed to gravitate toward experiences of the human spirit as opposed to the human person. I am fascinated by the unfathomable power of the spirit and take every opportunity to explore it’s driving force. “The Lost Letters of Gerhard David Epp” is such an adventure as is “Michael”.
One of the other things that excited me was an offer to translate some of the original works of Karl May’s Winnetou from German into English. That took me back to my pre-teenage years and the adventures we used to act out from the stories we read. It was a marvelous experience.
Of course none of this work was complete without narrating it into audio form. I mean, how can you possibly read a book without knowing the proper inflection of tone in just the right places? Well, and that wasn’t good enough either. People with dyslexia would have trouble reading the books as would people who didn’t understand English too well. Thus the “Talking eBook” was born.
I have to say I never realized that writing was such a busy life, nor as fulfilling. I’m just glad I discovered it before my days are done. There are still a lot of stories to tell and I can’t wait to get at it. But I must take time out to start reading again.
