Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Dave Tamanini I was at a seminar in my local bar association, and the topic was about the long history of witch accusations in Europe and later in colonial America.…moreI was at a seminar in my local bar association, and the topic was about the long history of witch accusations in Europe and later in colonial America. Lawyers focus on the lack of due process and the witches who got a trial often were considered guilty until proven innocent. The opposite of what we expect. When the lecture turned to Salem, 1692 and the 19 people convicted of witchcraft and hanged, I was really interested. And when Tituba's name came up, as the enslaved African woman, I was hooked because of my interest in gender and race issues. When I began my second novel, I wanted to explore magical realism. Then I remembered Tituba's story. Magic and Tituba went together perfectly for a good story. I hope you take a look and agree. Dave(less)
