Brent Garland is currently at work on his first novel. He is a lawyer, who has previously worked primarily as a policy professional.

Brent has held various professional and academic positions, including a position on the faculty of the University of Virginia and a senior staff position at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His policy and scholarly work has focused on ethical, legal, and social dimensions of the criminal justice system, the mental health system, and numerous scientific disciplines, most recently neuroscience.

He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology and a law degree.
