"Who Moved My Cheese?" is all about adapting to change, it tells a story of 4 mice two of which are very simple mice called Scurry and Sniff and two of which are complex mice who think like humans called hem and haw. Everyday these mice put on their running shoes and run around a maze in the search of cheese. Eventually the mice find a place called Cheese Station C which has an endless supply of cheese, the mice are extremely excited and eat as much as they can. Hem and Haw remove their running shoes as they are ready to stay at Cheese Station C for a long time. The next day when they come back to the station they discover that someone had moved their cheese. Sniff and Scurry immediately accept the change and run off in search for new cheese whereas Hem and Haw are resistant to the change and refuse to search for a new cheese spot. Hem and Haw wait for a few days at Cheese Station C. Haw begins to get restless and realizes that the cheese is probably not coming back. Hem refuses to look around the maze for other cheese and decides to continue to wait at Cheese Station C. On Haw's search for new cheese he beings to realize the difficulty of finding a new spot. He finds and eats little pieces of moulded cheese on the way but realizes that he needed to accept the change quicker therefore he would have gotten new cheese instead of mouldy cheese. Haw beings to realize that change is good and he in his search for cheese he begins to feel more free and optimistic. Finally, he comes across Cheese Station N! In this station cheese is stacked higher than the eye can see. He discovers Sniff and Scurry already at Cheese Station N they welcome him and he eats as much as his heart desires. He reflected upon what he learned about change and wrote it on the maze wall. Change happens, anticipate the change, monitor change, adapt to change quickly, enjoy change, and be ready to change quickly and enjoy it again.
Although I did not find the story of the mice especially captivating I still took a lot away from this book. I naturally resist change and enjoy routine. Whether I like it or not change is inevitable and it's probably best I embrace it and enjoy it. Overall, I really enjoyed the message I received from Dr. Spencer Johnson's "Who Moved My Cheese?" ...more "
