SweetSpot: Now and Then by Marla Miller
A few levels make this novel a solid summer 'beach' read:
A writer wannabe (when we meet her) drives this narrative, fast paced, dialogue driven, steamy romance, sad subplot. At another level, classism, generational dysfunction, midlife panic also drive this narrative.

Jodi shared a note from
Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult
WISH YOU WERE HERE is a book I never thought I’d write, and to be honest, it was a form of therapy for me. When the pandemic hit, I went into SEVERE lockdown because I have asthma and I was terrified. Never in my life have I felt so discombobulated and unable to chart my own course. I think that’s what made me write about Diana – I didn’t know what was going to happen next in MY life, so instead I created a fictional life I had full control over.

Jane Smiley
“Leaving any bookstore is hard, especially on a day in August, when the street outside burns and glares, and the books inside are cool and crisp to the touch; especially on a day in January, when the wind is blowing, the ice is treacherous, and the books inside seem to gather together in colorful warmth. It's hard to leave a bookstore any day of the year, though, because a bookstore is one of the few places where all the cantankerous, conflicting, alluring voices of the world co-exist in peace and order and the avid reader is as free as a person can possibly be, because she is free to choose among them.”
Jane Smiley

“The secret of being a writer: not to expect others to value what you've done as you value it. Not to expect anyone else to perceive in it the emotions you have invested in it. Once this is understood, all will be well.”

“I never change, I simply become more myself.”
