I know if I'm writing there are periods of time for thinking and working out the characters' next steps. I take the time I need. I go for walks, I garden or do something else that gives my mind time to process and play with different scenarios. I need that time, and give myself permission to take it. I always find the answers in the end.

Writing is hard work. It may not seem to be, but actually a great deal of labour goes into making a story come alive on the page. And if I need to rest, I rest. But I know I'm working on the story in the back of my mind. (less)

I'm always striving to write better and capture a scene more effectively. I can't imagine not writing. Even if it's just typing the answers to these questions, I am writing. I always have a journal on hand, and I have a separate journal for my poetry, and a note book for the novel I'm working on. (less)
