Writing was something I dreaded as a kid. My hand cramped up and I tended to push down so hard on the pencil that I always broke the lead. Actually school in its entirety brought fear to my heart, I did, however, love English class in the 8th grade because of Miss Kelly. She was hot. It was the only time I got better than a ‘D’. The only time I ever thought of writing as a possible career was a year later when I wrote a story that I was very proud of.

Ms. Gruber, a thick German woman with glasses that covered her entire face, began the class with “I think we might have a budding author among us!!!” She then went on to brag about how wonderful this amazing story was.

My heart raced and my mouth went dry. I knew that any minute I would be standing up and entreated to ‘share my genius with the class’. She even turned down my aisle, but she stopped two desks in front of my desk, at Dave’s desk, my best friend.

Dave was tall. Dave was handsome. Dave was the forward on the JV basketball team – I was none of those things. But I’ve moved on from that – no left-over bitterness here!!!

Anyway, fast-forward twenty-five years later, and the advent of the PC. I began emailing back and forth with my good friend Kirk and he told me that I have a way with words – had I ever thought of writing anything? Well, I still hated ‘writing’ but I played around with a few things and found out that these little keys are magical. They take my thoughts and allow me to daydream like I used to all day long in school. I don’t have squeeze a little stick of wood or plastic and push it around on a page and wait for it to break or run out of ink; the damned thing even corrects my horrific spelling!
