Mike Stoner has had numerous jobs, ranging from ice-cream seller to policeman to salesman and finally to an English teacher. This gave him the opportunity to travel to Indonesia where the inspiration for his first book, Jalan Jalan, came from.
In 2011, as mature student, he gained an MA with distinction in Creative Writing at the University of Kent.
Before finding a publisher, his self-published version of Jalan Jalan was awarded The Guardian's Self-published Book of the Month in December 2014. hey mike, Jalan Jalan is brilliant! thoroughly original and unpredictable. have you thought about making it into a movie? it might be hard to convey the whole thing about laura, but if you could figure that out, i think it would be a hit. also, you might have to compress it a bit to fit in less than 2 hours, it's a beautiful blend of worlds: of the protagonist (inner and outer), the teachers, and the locals.

I'd love it to be a film, and I believe there is a film student trying to make an indie movie at the moment, but I'm not sure how far he's got with it. Sadly I don't have the time or money to invest into making a film myself, but I'm ever hopeful!

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Or I keep writing a page, then deleting, then writing, then deleting, until it carries on for more than a page, and then it hopefully starts falling into place. I also make sure I write something down when I have an 'inspiration' moment.(less)

Second book looking for an agent

So it all starts again. After finally getting a publisher for Jalan Jalan, they now aren't interested in number two as it isn't Asia themed, so the hunt for an agent has started once more.
The next one is very different to Jalan Jalan, more fun and not aimed at such an adult audience, although I hope adults will still enjoy I Am Book.
