Daniel Klein's writing education features Graduate Fiction at the Iowa Writers Workshop with the late James McPherson, along with other writing programs across the country. In his early years as a writer, Klein minored in Poetry with Iowa alumni Rush Rankin at the Kansas City Art Institute and then elsewhere with other Iowa graduates. His short stories have won New Letters Literary Awards and have placed in various short story competitions.

Most recently, Daniel's short story, Sonata in Three Notch, Alabama was a finalist in the Vocal Media, Vocal+ Fiction Awards. Sonata was also published by Prometheus Dreaming Literary Journal.
