Gina Marinello-Sweeney is the author of Prince of Chandeliers, a fairy-tale novel, and The Veritas Chronicles, a contemporary YA trilogy. Both story worlds are filled with eccentric and wonderstruck characters, and her writing has been compared to that of L.M. Montgomery. I Thirst, the first book in The Veritas Chronicles, received the 2013 YATR Literary Award for Best Prologue from Young Adult Teen Readers.

Gina delights in the poetic riddles of the sea, whimsical butterflies that seem as if they are from another realm, and enchanting rose arches that resemble portals to faerieland. She has been writing ever since she was a little girl and turned her bedroom into a “library,” complete with due date slips and a check-out stamp. Gina lives in

While I cannot reveal whether The Abominable Snowwoman herself will make an appearance, I can say that there is a connection between that scene and the second book. Consider it to be a bit of . . . foreshadowing. :)(less)

Hi, Ray! First off, congratulations on the release of your first book. I know what an incredible feeling that is.

You mentioned a group on goodreads . . . which one?

I would recommend making use of social media as much as possible. Do you have a twitter account? If not, I would recommend signing up. When making posts, use hashtags as much as possible in order to reach more readers. I also recommend creating an author facebook page and Instagram account.

In facebook and goodreads groups, it is often possible to promote your book for interested members. Look for categories that apply, as well as the rules (ie. Some do not allow promotional posts). Book events at libraries, bookstores, and coffee shops are also popular ways to reach readers. Best of luck!(less)

Finding the Garden: A Reflection on the Joy and Wonder Found Beyond Suffering and Pain

I have never been one to go for the "happiness is a choice" mantra because I feel that it minimizes pain and suffering—but I do think that it is possible to find the wildest and most beautiful of joys in very difficult circumstances.

I understand pain well. Much more than some may assume when observing me and my wonderstruck ways.

But my wonder and joy are not naive.

Nor are they fake.

“Maturity is so often considered to be synonymous with ‘adult.’ But I truly feel that maturity may be defined by the ability to be both an adult and a child.”
Gina Marinello-Sweeney, I Thirst

“Icy pillars of serenity, spun from airy mist, entered my quiet vision in echoes of worlds unknown.”
Gina Marinello-Sweeney, The Rose and the Sword

“As for clichés, they’re an illusion. When you think about it, anything could be considered a cliché. It’s when you really bring truth to something that it becomes original…which may," he smiled wryly, "itself be considered a cliché.”

“And, as I had gazed at my surroundings, at the muted, yet triumphant, colors splashed in joyful serenity over the immaculate stone floor, at the profiles of my fellow parishioners bent in prayer, and finally, up above, at the flickering lights held in a soft gray ceiling like chandeliers in an ancient palace, I realized that my thoughts had been transferred to Someone Else.”
