While it offers good material and easy-to-follow strategies, I found it a chore to wade through. My interest ebbed and flowed, and ironically, I felt it could undo my healthy reading routine.The book succeeded in bringing awareness to my daily habits and making me more present. I have started implementing concepts like “habit stacking” and “habit tracking.” Yet, while analyzing behaviors is great, it became tiresome. Worrying too much about daily choices is like looking in a mirror from an inch away—you see every imperfection and lose sight of the bigger picture. It felt tedious.James Clear shares many enjoyable examples of successful people. However, far too often, the content felt regurgitated from other books on human psychology. Sometimes it seemed like he simply threw catchy new titles on pre-existing methods, while other times it just felt like common sense.On the positive side, the book covers both developing good habits and eliminating bad ones. I was pleased to see a reference to Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking, a book that truly changed my life. Key takeaways that resonated with me include the importance of patience, the difference between "motion" and "action," and the two-minute rule for starting new habits.The chapter summaries were helpful for remembering key points, but they also highlighted that substantial filler surrounded just a few main ideas. These ideas are solid guidelines for building a better life, though only time will tell their true impact.My grievances with Atomic Habits are in the minority. Many find this book amazing, so do not let my words prevent you from reading it. After all, it left me wanting to eat healthier, improve my bedtime routines, and embrace minimalism, which is undoubtedly good.“Your actions reveal how badly you want something.
