Scott Yates is a follower of Jesus, public relations veteran and author. His first book was inspired by a faith journey with his wife, Eleanor “Nell” Yates. They met as veteran newspaper reporters at the Fayetteville Observer and married in 1992. Their son, Lee, was born in 1994. Nell wrote for numerous university, state, and national publications, while Scott later founded OnPoint Communications Group in 2013.

In 2016, Nell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, deepening the couple’s faith and ministry. During one especially meaningful moment in the nursing home, after Nell’s speech had become largely incoherent due to aphasia, Scott rhetorically said, “Isn’t it going to be amazing when we see Jesus face-to-face.” Nell suddenly spoke clearly and ...more

Trust in God’s Timing

After my wife Nell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, some vaguely hinted at assisted suicide. The terrible disease brought us to a nursing home for the last two years when her care became overwhelming and left her like a child. Unable to talk, walk or even stand. Everyone talked about her smile, radiating the blessing of peace in her heart.
