I'm Shanii Williams, a Canadian author writing for women who have spent years being strong for everybody else.

My work lives where rage, grief, truth, and midlife meet. I know what it is to lose years, make choices you're not proud of, and wonder whether you waited too long to build a life that feels like yours. I also know this: your past does not get the final word.

Afterwards you felt ashamed, because the reaction did not match the size of the thing. That gap is worth paying attention to. It usually means the anger was not about the thing at all."
