Before the Poems
I think I am, first of all, an observer.
A poet probably has to be like that.
Even a tiny insect does not escape my notice when I really look—
how it crawls, how many legs it has,
how quietly it moves through its own small world.
Sometimes I look into the eyes of dogs and cats.
There is something there—
a kind of unspoken presence—
