K. E. Hummel is a disability rights advocate, English professor and grandfather, who believes all people matter. After 30 years managing programs helping people with disabilities lead empowered lives, Hummel is currently “seasonally retired,” and working in the public school system with students with autism & emotional support needs. Living with his wife and editor, Joanie Lorraine, Hummel spends his time writing, educating, and telling the grandkids stories about the good old days, back when he was a young pirate sailing the seas and fighting dragons. His stories challenge readers to go beyond their limitations and control their own destinies. All you need is faith in yourself, and the courage to dream.

Not Every Hero Runs: Why We Need More Disabled Protagonists

In too many stories, strength is shown by running, fighting, or flying. But what if courage looks different?

In Tide Song, Kei's legs don’t work the way others' do. She struggles on land. She uses canes. But in the water—her voice carries farther than anyone else's. Her mobility may be limited, but her power is real.

We need more stories like this. Where disability isn’t erased or magically cured, b Read more of this blog post »

A dark and complex world of magic and betrayal

Awesome book, kept the pages turning. It's hard to find well done "anti-hero" stories that really do a great job showing how the character turns to evil, but Hall really hit all the marks with this. I lo
