The…moreGet down the bones fast without thinking about grammar or form. Then rewrite, rewrite, rewrite. Take a break in between to reread with fresh eyes. The break can be long or short but I like to move to another room or location. Meditation, music, using multiple senses like smell and taste while cooking, gardening, being out in nature, walking in the woods clears a cluttered mind. Read what you've written out loud to check for rhythm and flow. Reading books on writing, attending workshops or engaging in critique groups are fine but can be distracting. If you're a procrastinator, there will always be another book or discussion to keep you from your task: writing. If you're a serious writer, you will write no matter what and keep writing despite any obstacles. There will always be obstacles. That's life. Keep writing.(less)

He's a feisty survivor and I wondered how many other fascinating black cat stories I could find. It turned into a year-long odyssey of connecting with hundreds of black cats from around the world.(less)
