Why these two? Because they are funny satirical caricatural and they embody the gravitas AND levity that I like to see in fiction, maybe also in real life. They are at once real life and also larger than life. As odd characters they are powerful drivers of this novel, it's plot and I like characters who are more important than the actual plot. (less)

What I would do was to write anything, even gibberish, entertain myself, as if no one else were going to see this piece. Another thing I did was to sit at my writing spot and even if I couldn't write gibberish, stay put for an hour or two. Sometimes I fell asleep but invariably the next session was productive. There is something to showing up being 90 percent or so of everything. Show up, write thru it, write gibberish. The "write" stuff will come.(less)
