Danny Holst was born (1956), raised, and lived in Harlem, New York City, for over a half century. He graduated from Bernard M. Baruch College (C.U.N.Y.) in 1980, earning a B.A. in social studies and a minor in secondary education. He entered the masters degree program at Hunter College (C.U.N.Y.) the same year, studying rehabilitation counseling. He devoted his life working with intellectually and physically disabled individuals.

Always a creative writer, he was a finalist at the 2017 Creative World Awards screenwriting contest for The Harlem Story. Written originally as an integrated musical, the story incorporated gospel, R&B, and Hip Hop song lyrics in the novel.
