3.5 stars out of 5.

I round up to 4 stars because it gave me some info on a topic I was lacking knowledge about. Frank is an American with experience in Honduras who has gotten a lot more involved there in the last decade. In June 2009, a military

That...........did not register with me at any level whatsoever.

I've read other works of Great Literature that did strike my fancy or that left me cold. But at least then I could see why they had such wonderful reputations. This? .... I... I just....

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
"The Chicago Tribune wrote: “The book is by turns hilarious, mysterious, contemplative and poignant, and everywhere full of rich descriptive passages.”

Assad or We Burn the Country by Sam Dagher

This is a very good and extremely thorough overlook of the situation in Syria. Dagher for a while was one of the only (the only?) western journalist stationed in there, so he knows the situation. He has some good sources, from protesters to former ...more

Gilgamesh by Michael Schmidt

It's a sign how unengaged I was with the book that I just now realized the author has the same name as a baseball Hall of Famer.

Half of it was the author's own aimless ponderings on the poem, and the other half was a Cliff Notes account of the poem

Equality by Charles Postel

This one took a while for me to get into, but get into it I did - to some extent. It's a history of various movements in the late 19th century to promote various forms of social equality. More than that, it's how those movements often came in ...more

The Drowning Pool by Ross Macdonald
Rate this book
Clear rating
It's OK, but probably not for me. It's a decent story and a lot of loose ends get tied up by the end, but along the way it bugged me, as the second quarter of the book seemed largely unrelated from the first quarter.
