That said, the cases were not "mysteries," per se, as the circumstances were clear fairly soon, so unless I was tempted to do a "true crime" book—and I'm not—they do not give me material I can use.

Before THE GIRL IN THE BOSTON BOX, I wrote a novel that was suggested by some crimes in the Boston area, but I'm not sure I'd characterize them as being "in my own life." Rather, they were public events that provided fodder.

In the end, I'm more likely to use non-criminal events in my life to provide color to my writing. THE GIRL IN THE BOSTON BOX, in a sense, is all about things that I've lived, but divorced from the central mystery.(less)
