R.E. Conary Hey, P.V. I'm a little slow getting back to you about Wiping Out Guilt: A Private Detective Crime Novel. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I really liked it and Kina McKevie’s marvelous.

She’s tough, street savvy and refuses to be labelled or pigeonholed. “Thief, addict, gay, lesbian, bi, victim, ex-con, murderer” are just words. They’re not her. Not who she is or wants to be at this moment in her life. Her fear of going back to prison is so palpable it overrides all her actions. And her distrust of the police keeps her as edgy and wary as a dog that’s been beaten too often.

Her totally insulting gesture of “kissing her teeth” was a great bit of realism (You know it’s insulting just from context but I had to look it up later to understand its meaning, how it’s done and its origins.).

The teen-gang controlled neighborhood had me thinking of Baxter Clare’s Lt. “Frank” Franco and Gunnar Staalesen’s Varg Veum. But Kina’s continually getting away unscathed was a stretch of credulity yet didn’t keep me from enjoying the ride.

Yes, this book was free at Amazon but Amazon only had the sequel Chasing Answers in paperback. Both e-books are available free at Smashwords, Kobo, B&N, & (probably) Apple.
