For good or bad, the number of people still "living in medieval times today" is much greater than the actual number back then of around 100 million.
Some people want to be there, but most don't want it, they are there only because that was where they were born.
Books for all, agriculture to feed all, modern transportation and construction concepts, widespread global trade, all of this was suppose to lift people out of the dark ages, and we still haven't done it.
