I've brought THE LOVERS and I intend to give it for my 12-year-old student for welcome back home, but honestly I don't know a thing this kind of book. It's not my type.

So, could you guys tell me this is OK for a boy? The boy can enjoy? Is it appropriate?

Thank you for your kind my friends :)

John Connelly's writing is on average not the material for a 12 year old, and then this book isnot even the first in the Charlie Parker series so some parts may cause some confussion.
I would not give my twelve year old this book. In doubt read it yourself.

I'd agree with other posts. I have read all the series so far and although the Lovers is not as graphic as some it is still not suitable for kids. Hell, some of the stories give me nightmares.

The author has, however, done some books that would be suitable for kids:

The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly which is a sort of grown up fairytale. It has some dark themes, but I don't think there is anything that would freak out a soon to be teen.

Then there's The Gates by John Connolly . This is hilarious and educational - what more could you want.

I love Connelly's writing and these two (plus the Gates has a sequel) should keep anyone entertained. Let us know if the kid likes them.

You want to give a book called "The Lovers" to a twelve-year-old?

I don't think it's appropriate for a 12 year old...... I tend to leave the light on all night after I've read a John Connolly book (still read every single one though)
Do agree that the 'Book of Lost Things' would be great for him though..... A very dark fairy tale.....
