Kamil | 372 comments In 'laser' books, movies, games we get plenty of hostile creatures no one wants to encounter. I'm asking what's the worst according to you.. Which race you hope you'd never meet? for me the biggest space threat and nightmere are borgs ( let's forget about ex-borg ladies) What makes them terryfing? they' take away the captive's identity, dreams, thoughts, ambitions and assimilate them to the collective. and if that wasn't enough borgs have horrible haircuts that make volcans look stylish

Micah (onemorebaker) | 1071 comments maybe the Aliens from Alien and the sequels? Not only can they spit acid and eat your face off but they will also keep you alive; only to implant you with one of their eggs by having a scary ass spider creature sit on your face and choke you with its crazy ass tail. And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse the damn baby Alien will chew its way out of your belly while you are still alive. Finally killing you. That's a lot of agony to go through if they ever caught you.

I blame you for the nightmares I'll have tonight.

Aliens gets my vote too.

David(LA,CA) (davidscharf) | 327 comments Hard to argue with the xenomorphs from Aliens.

But as a runner up: The Vashta Nerada. "The shadows that melt the flesh". Piranha of the air.

Casey | 654 comments Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra, their eyes closed!
(sorry, I'll stop now)

Leesa (leesalogic) | 675 comments Hahaha! Can't think of something serious now thanks to Casey :)

OK, can't think of anything worse than Alien.

@Casey-THEIR EyES OPEN!!! THEIR EYES OPEN!!!

Kamil | 372 comments ok, let me rephrase the question... what would be the worst hostile space encounter if only hamanoids and robots were taken into consideration?

Hamanoids sound tasty. Sentient or no..."

Ok now I vote Darren as the scariest :O

"Hey, I'm kinda dying over here. Are you, by any chance, using your lungs? You are? Huh. Well, yeah, I sorta need them, so... I'm just going to take them."

Peter | 142 comments The Predators...fugly and deadly...while they care about honor, their tactics are insanely deadly.

message 18: by Rasnac (new)

Rasnac | 336 comments They are not exactly humanoid but "Shadows" from Babylon 5 are very very intimidating.

message 19: by Rod (new)

Rod (terez07) I have to say the xenomorphs from the Alien films too. They are just terrifying.

message 20: by Liv (new)

Liv (liviebutton) Weeping Angels from Doctor Who, enough said.

Ulmer Ian (eean) | 341 comments Anyone who likes this thread needs to go out and watch Cabin in the Woods (it is out on disc in September). Horror monsters rather than scifi monsters (though the movie itself is more scifi than horror), but regardless, it's full of fan service for monster fans. :)

Kirsten Bailey (klbailey) | 82 comments What about the reavers from firefly? They rape you to death, eat your flesh and sew your skin into their clothing - and if you're really lucky, they do it in that order.

message 25: by David(LA,CA) (new)

David(LA,CA) (davidscharf) | 327 comments Definitely. Gorram Reavers.

Although, do we get to count them due to the nature of their origin? Everything else on this list were things that were out there waiting for unfortunate people to run into. Reavers are home grown things you don't want to encounter.

Dharmakirti | 942 comments Among the worst hostile creatures for me are the Inchoroi from R. Scott Bakker's ongoiong fantasy series, Second Apocalypse.

The Inchoroi are aliens (they crased their spaceship into the fantasy world in which the story takes place) who believe themselves to be a "race of lovers" and are practioners of something referred to as the Tekne (the Old Science) in the books. I think of the Tenke as extreme biological and genetic engineering/manipulation, they alter or make flesh into pretty much whatever they want (typically monsters--that rape and kill).

The books in the series are:
The Darkness That Comes Before
The Warrior Prophet
The Thousandfold Thought
The Judging Eye
The White Luck Warrior
