This book was brought up as an aside during the last hangout (I think it was Kiala who mentioned it, not sure sorry) and it sounded so good I immediately added it to my to-read list. So, I finally go around to reading it last weekend, and stayed up until 4am finishing the first book. Yes, it's one of those! I'm now on book four of the series, and I highly recommend it, if you have any interest at all in Sherlock Holmes. Has anyone else read this? I can't express enough how much I am enjoying it, and honestly, I don't usually go in for period fiction.

Sorry, I misread the title and thought you meant the other book discussed. Didn't the ladies mention more than one Holmes book?
Veronica I believe mentioned it. I have added it to my to-read list but havn't gotten to it yet.
I do however love the Sherlock stories and am looking forward to reading this book at some stage.

I've just started reading this, and am enjoying it so far. I believe the author has done an excellent job capturing the feel of the era. It's been a fun read so far.
I love this series and am about halfway thorough. I read one or two a year so I can savor them. I think these books would definitely qualify for our group and hope to see them on the hangout some day!

Considering how smutty some of the monthly books have been, the Mary Russel have been pretty devoid of romance/smut.
Started the series this weekend while visiting a friend for a few days.Enjoyed it so much a part of me couldnt wait to go home just so I could focus on reading it.Definitely something I'd recommend to others but probably not for one of our groups reads.
Veronica mentioned this book in the first hangout I think an early hangout anyway and I loved the sound of it and added it to my to read list straight away but havnt as yet gotten around to reading it cos I have so many good books to read and so little time and am so slow at reading lol but im excited to hear how much you are enjoying it and cant wait to finally read it :)
I think I would enjoy this as well, I have just started watching sherlock a bbc modern take on it, its on netflix and its really quite good. It would also make a change for me not to read fantasy and sci fi.

i have the book on my to read list also.
I just came across a list of "Surprising Good Books" here on Goodreads, and "The Beekeepers Apprentice" was on the list. You can check out the other books here:http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/28...
A friend of mine wrote "The Reluctant Debutante," another one of the books on the list. It's her debut novel, and I'm thrilled to see how well it is being recieved. Go Becky!
The author, Laurie R. King, is doing a Q&A on goodreads through 9/11, I believe. I got an email about it but deleted it. Darn.I liked her other series, as well, a modern day series about a lesbian cop in San Francisco. I enjoy how she melds feminist theology and mystery in both series. Her stand alone books I haven't loved as much.
I just started the book and I'm just loving it. I know it's an older Holmes, but I like to think of Benedict Cumberbatch as I read....... ;)
There is a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories now available on Audible that IS ACTUALLY READ BY BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH. I haven't had the chance to listen yet, but I'm sure it's amazing:Sherlock Holmes: The Rediscovered Railway Mysteries and Other Stories
UNABRIDGED
by John Taylor
Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch

I JUST READ THIS BOOK! I watched the BBC Sherlock ep 1 Season 2 and got Sherlock obsessed and Veronica mentioned this book. OMG I really love it. I cannot WAIT to read book 2 (STARTING TONIGHT). It's such a fascinating relationship between the characters, with the age difference and the true connection between the two. SO good.
I am absolutely in love with this series! I just finished the 10th one today! It's hard to stop reading them to fit in all the other stuff I want to read!
