Yep, there's even a rare picture of my face there! oooohhh...ahhhh.. :)
I'm supporting two causes:
1) Abolish Child Trafficking (A.C.T.), a campaign of Covenant House (I think its mission is pretty self-explanatory)
2) U.S. War Dog Association, for the Military Working Dogs (MWDs) who are saving our lives every day and still classified as equipment not animals, so they don't even get any guaranteed medical care or shipping back home after deployment. They are "tools" often "abandoned in place" for lack of funding :-(
1) to tell you folks about this so that if anyone is looking for something new to read and review, you can consider the added benefit of helping a good cause by choosing a book by an author who donates proceeds to a charity.
The group is informal, started by R.S. Guthrie (Rob) and is managed in his spare (hahahaha) time. There is no one checking to be sure anyone gives anything anywhere. This is just a means of gathering together authors who want to tell the world, "Hey, reading my book is going to help this cause" and you have to assume they are not lying.
2) I'm trying to pick the cause for my donations ;) I'm 99% sure I'm going with Team X-T.R.E.M.E. but I have this blog here where I list 7 possibilities. I'm already a member of Soldiers Angels so I know they are actually OVER-funded and personally, I'd like to see SA donate some of THEIR funds to other groups (*wink*) Oh and now that Dean Cain is in the show Stars Earn Strips donating his winnings to Wounded Warrior Project that's kind of getting a lot of sudden income.
I'm looking to support a group that is doing good, is not shutting down tomorrow or going to quit next month and will benefit vets or military families. Team X-T.R.E.M.E. seems to be "it" for me.
I'll also be choosing one of the 3 organizations recommended to me by Dog Advocate Kevin Hanrahan to support Military Working Dogs (MWDs) which are still considered equipment and not even guaranteed a flight back to the States after they finish their deployment! It's so outrageous how we use and then discard these animals after they do so much FOR US. If you haven't voted for "Gabe" at the Hero Dog Awards yet, do it now. If he wins, some of those dogs who've sniffedout IEDs and saved the lives of countless military lives will get a ride home and funded for adoption in their retirement--instead of being discarded like a used up milk carton :-(
Yeah, I need to support the dogs but I am already :) I need help deciding on the primary charity for The Phoenician Series. Is Team X-T.R.E.M.E. it, you think? I have a poll on Facebook if you want to vote - just click here.
