Yes, this will definitely work.

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments For those of you looking for epistolary novels this blog recently commented on them with lots of reader comments.

While the original blog stressed romances, the titles in the comments cover a much wider ground.

message 56: by Candiss (new)

Candiss (tantara) For #4, I know the author's initials can both come from one of the words "BELL" or "PHONE," but can you use both? I'd like to read:
Independent People by Halldór Laxness by Halldór Laxness.

His first initial, H, comes from "phone," and his second initial, L, comes from "bell." Would this work?

Yes, this works. Enjoy!

Jana | 21 comments For #4, if an author uses a middle name does that have to fit into the BELL PHONE letters too or just the first and last initial?

message 60: by Riya (new)

Riya (riyaishere) | 188 comments Would this work for number 2? Persepolis The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi

message 61: by Megan (new)

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner! My computer was down while I was rearranging my office and assembling my new desk.

Jana, all the initials should fit in BELLPHONE.

Mariya, Persepolis will work (it's really good, btw).

Adele Symonds (adelesymonds) | 8 comments I rolled a 3 and a 4, hopefully will find some nice options to chose from

I've noticed lately that when I post something, it just whirls and whirls endlessly. When I get sick of it and go away, then I later come back to find out that it did post, even though it didn't seem that it was going to...........sigh............ Between that and the "Goodreads is over capacity," it's taking forever to get anything done here!

message 65: by Peebee (new)

Peebee | 481 comments So, for #3 (book of letters) would a compilation of advice columns work? Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar It's letters from her readers to Dear Sugar, and her responses. Not your typical "letters," but certainly what passes for them these days....

I'll accept this. Just make sure you put that it was approved in the help thread when you post.

Bea I was planning on reading Waiting for Godot, but the copy my library has is not 100 pages. Can I read two separate plays to make the pages? I was thinking of adding The Importance of Being Earnest.

Chaitra (chaitra_ganesh) | 518 comments Ms A, I wanted to confirm that The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society would work for #3 and Out Stealing Horses would work for #6. Horses is translated from Norwegian which I don't know.

I haven't read it, but if it's completely in the form of letters, it will work.

message 72: by Chaitra (new)

Chaitra (chaitra_ganesh) | 518 comments I haven't read it either (I've just got it out of the library), but the cover has a letter on it. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer . The Goodreads description also mentions letters - hopefully it has a lot of them!

message 73: by Connie (new)

Connie G (connie_g) | 358 comments If anyone is looking for a cute, witty book with lots of e-mails, I would recommend Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. (It would have made a good romantic Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks movie in their younger days.)

message 74: by Robin (Saturndoo) (last edited Sep 13, 2012 02:05PM) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I rolled a 2 and a 3.

Will Ana's Story A Journey of Hope by Jenna Bush Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein =656 pages work for option 2?

For option 3: I haven't read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer but I looked throught the book and it is an epistolary novel, written in all letters. So does that mean it will work?

Option 2: Any one of those books will work--you don't need to read all three!

Option 3: It should work. I think Chaitra was going to read that, too.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) LOL ok...I just thought because they were picture books I had to get 500 pages. Thanks!!!

Picture books are like Green Eggs and Ham or Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Books with illustrations are different :D You're welcome!

message 79: by Vi (new)

Vi | 184 comments I rolled option 2 and 5. For option 2, can I read a manga book; specifically one from this: Getbackers, Volume 10? The paperback has 200 pages. I think the 100 page rule applies to graphic novels too, but I'd like to make sure.

message 86: by Ms.soule (new)

Ms.soule (mrssoule) For option 6 (Lost in Translation), would you take Sgt. Frog, Vol. 1: Enter the Sergeant? This is originally translated from Japanese but I cannot find the Japanese edition on Goodreads. I spent an hour using my goodreads librarian powers to combine editions and correct author names but I only found the English, Indonesian, and Spanish editions...

Ah! I've seen this one! Yes, it definitely works. And I don't think you need to link to the Japanese version for it, just the version you read.
