From the GR description, doesn't sound as if it takes place on any sort of boat, but rather on flying dragons. I haven't read it, so can't go beyond the GR description.

Sandy, it starts out on a ship and there are several scenes on a boat, but you are correct -- most of the action is either on land or on the dragon. :)

yes,if I recall correctly, they do travel on the boat, so it would involve a boat trip. I loved the Borrowers books whenI was a kid - I used to put little things that I thought they could use around the edges of my bedroom, just in case there were any borrowers in my house!

If the main characters go on a trip on a boat, it works.

yes, sounds like plenty of boat trips involved!

As long as there's a trip on a boat, it's okay. But it has to be in the plot - if they just say, "she got on a boat and went to the island," then there's no real part of the plot that happens on the boat.

Hhhhmmmm, fair enough, I'll know when I read it, if it doesn't work, I'll move it somewhere else, thanks Sandy.

oh, yes, that one is almost all set on a boat.

At least some of the action - doesn't have to be even 50%, but there has to be a boat trip involved in the action (not just mentioned - "she took a boat to get to the island).

Whould The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton count?

As I recall it, there's a boat trip that's fairly significant in the plot development, so yes.

Excellent. I've been wanting to read this book for awhile, maybe this will give me the push I needed. Thanks!

The book describes the Missouri River as "A great spiral staircase to the Rockies" and it tells the stories of those who followed it 3,000 miles in canoes, keelboats and steamboats in search of furs, precious metals, homesteads, fortunes, adventure and glory.

Sure - sounds like there's plenty of action on the ship.
I noticed that there only seems to be ebook versions of this, so don't forget to get it approved for length in the ebook approval thread.

Sarah wrote: "I wanted to check on this title: The Impossible Rescue: The True Story of an Amazing Arctic Adventure. It's about the rescue of a whaling ship, so I imagine there's a good portion on a boat."
From the description, it sounds like it's about the overland adventure of the rescuers - but if there's significant action on the whaling ship(s) (as opposed to just being stuck there in the ice waiting to be rescued), it would work.

Chaitra wrote: "Sandy, would The Flight of Gemma Hardy work for this? There's quite a lot of back and forth on ferries and boats, but none of it is in the description..."
Is there any action happening on the boat, or just "she travelled by boat from point A to point B"?

Sandy, a bit. When she first arrives on the ferry, she makes a friend who basically tells her all the gossip about the place she's going to work. Then when she runs away from the island, she stows away on the same ferry. Before that, when she was a child, her uncle brings her from Iceland on a boat. She stays up on the boat waiting for her father to surface (he died at sea), so it's pretty traumatic for her when she has to leave the boat. I think that's it - if it doesn't work I'll find another book. :)

If there's significant action on the canoe, sure. It's been a very long time since I read Deliverance, so I don't recall whether any significant action happened on the canoe itself - my memories are more about the land-based action!

It seems to be listed most places as "middle-grade" which is generally grades 4-6.

It certainly appears to be a childen's book, but this is a 5 point task so the rules allow you to use it.
