Do you have a favorite book of the bible or scripture?

I find Matthew, Psalms and Revelation among my favorites.
There are a lot of encouraging passages in the bible and things that I had no idea were in there, like about minding your own business.(1 Thessalonians 4:11)

John 13:34

First chapter of Judges, verse nineteen.

"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free". John 8:32

It's so nice to find a refreshingly positive discussion about the Bible versus all the athiest sinners that have made it their point to post blasphemy all through the discussions. Another favorite of mine is John 3.

I didn't know of that either! Thanks for that. My favorite is James chapt 2 "faith without works is dead." I love that one. Many people believe that great things are supposed to just happen for them because they have faith thought they aren't willing to put forth any effort of hard work to get it.

My favorite book is Proverbs in the Old Testament and Romans in the New. My favorite scripture? Romans 1:16. I think that is exactly how every CHristian should be. 'Unashamed'

'For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the Power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek' Roman 1:16 <3

"For I know the plans I have for you. Plans not to harm you but to prosper you and give you hope for the future." Jeremiah 29:11

Favorite scripture: Acts 1:8

Book: Luke

I love Proverbs.

Lately I have taken a strong liking for 2 Samuel. There is one verse I memorized many moons ago, 1 Timothy 1:15 and it is one that I favoured. Some folks think it is strange.
"This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief."

I have so many favorite scriptures, but one that gives me Hope, time and time again is:

Romans 8:28

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God."

Psalm 32
1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
3 When I kept silent,my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer....
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

I don’t like religions. I think these beliefs are impossible for mankind to let, but separates people and nations. We in Spain know that very well after centuries of fight against Lutheranism and Moslem, and a fatal expulsion of the Jews in the XV century, the people which were the best professionals and merchants, together with a failed attempt to invade England. Today we see in Boston, it seems from here a pair of religious fanatic madmen are exploding artifacts and killing people. Some Muslim of today seems to live in what was European Middle Age of cathedrals and crusades.
And at last, if you must be good, that can’t be for fear to a punishment of God. That’s a miserable idea. The man who does good only for fear is despicable and truly, he doesn’t make any good moral thing.
But well, it uses to happen when one ceases believing in God, he begins to believing in anything. This is a burden humanity seems to have to deal with.
For that I don’t like much, the religious texts. They can be literarily worth, but forceful, if there’s a God, has to be for everybody, not for one and only gifted people.
British ex-nun Karen Armstrong has written several interesting books about all that, but religions are as people: if te people are warrior, the god is a warrior, case of the Scandinavians. If the people cares cattle, his god is a shepherd, if people has nothing material, they are Buddhist.

Sincerely, Carlos

Easily the Gospel of John.

My favorite Psalm is 32.

Psalm 137:9
King James Version (KJV)
9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

Ezekiel 23:20-21
New International Version (NIV)
20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 21 So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled.

"For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh."--Psalm 38:7 KJV

How can you have a favorite? The entire thing is my favorite! :)

I love Luke,Matthew,Mark, and John.Proverbs and Psalms are both beautiful.Werid as it may be I am a big fan of Revelations also.I love Samuel 1 also.

some of my favorite verse:1 Corinthians 13:4-7,Luke 23:34,Luke 18:27 and of course lots of peoples favorite John 3:16

This is the day the Lord hath made.
I will rejoice and be glad in it.

"For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever shall believe in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16. There are many, many favorites in this Book of books, but I think this sums it all up.

Psalm 46 v 10 - Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Why worry when you serve the creator of heaven and earth.

@Timothy,

As a fellow atheist I found your comments about exodus quite interesting. What chains are you speaking of, and how does the bible provide hope for freedom from these chains?

My very favorite verse is Psalm 34:4 "I sought the Lord and He heard me and delievered me from all my fears." When I was little I use to have nightmares all the time and my mom told me that verse. So I memerized that verse and every time I was afraid I said that verse out loud and the nightmares started to go away.

Proverbs and John

"Let God be true and every man a liar". Romans 3:4

Ephesians 6:5-8
New International Version (NIV)
5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.

Job. God is a gambling furious deity who gets upset after throwing a bunch of bullocks at Job and Job finally blows his top. Satan wins until God sternly warns Job to change his tune.
