Michael | 254 comments Somebody has edited J.R.R. Tolkien to J. R. R. Tolkien. I tried to change it back, but keep getting "Gateway Timeout", which I assume is due to the massive amount of data associated with the author.

The same person has apparently also deleted all of the biographical data associated with J.R.R Tolkien, transferring it to J. R. R. Tolkien, so if I had been successful in changing the author's name back to the correct format, all that biographical data would have been lost.

Can somebody please fix this while I go and lie down and say my mantra against hyperventilation!

lafon حمزة نوفل (lafon) | 3544 comments I also got a Gateway Timeout, but when I came back it was merged. Huh.
Also I cried the whole time I was waiting for it to finish.

Michael | 254 comments Oh, thank goodness, and thank you!! I had to turn my computer off and do something else for a while! Surprising how a little careless editing can affect you - I think I need therapy!!

message 4: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Maybe someone should PM the feller....otherwise it could happen again.

lafon حمزة نوفل (lafon) | 3544 comments Yeah, I did. I just realized that the I unconsciously capitalized "gateway timeout" like it's a dreaded occurrence.

Yeah, you and me both. ;)

Her Royal Orangeness (onlyorangery) | 31 comments That's one of the most horrifying thread titles I've ever seen in the Librarians Group. :)

Took him out behind the old Gaffer's hobbit-hole and roughed him up a bit. Probably didn't let him have second breakfast.

I LOL'd so hard at this. It was worth the mistaken name change.

But how about elevenses? He *did* get that, didn't he? Cause missing both would just be...::shudder::

Second breakfast is a movie thing. Nothing to do with "proper" Tolkien.

It's in The Hobbit. The book, that is.

Damnation. Mind you, Bilbo has it at half past ten so it could be an early elevenses. But thanks anyway.

Michael | 254 comments My palpitations have stopped now. Thank you all for your messages of support and good wishes. The doctor said that I can have a little light Smith of Wootton Major or Farmer Giles Of Ham, but I musn't overdo The Silmarillion's for a week or two.

Shameless plug: If any of you concerned citizens aren't already members, perhaps you'd like to come and visit us over at the J.R.R. Tolkien reading group :-)

message 17: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl The same thing just happened to E.M. Forster. I changed it back and PM'd the malfeasor.

message 18: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra | 108 comments We've been doing hobbity "second breakfasts" since at least twenty years before the movies came out. I'm pretty sure it's in Tolkien somewhere.

That was one alarming thread title.

As MrsJoseph says above it is in The Hobbit. But that doesn't excuse them for putting it in an entirely different movie. It will be interesting to see if it does turn up in The Hobbit movie.

I've noticed she has also edited many other author names in the same way (with extra spaces). PM'd as well and I've started on fixing them.

message 22: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra | 108 comments Don't the official Librarian style rules say not to use spaces? I thought it was right there in the manual.

Oh, I agree. But they did so much with the books that it's not worth the pain to try to figure it out...

*sigh*

You know, I'm really tempted...

...but after LotR Tolkien really went hardcore into his "beauty is all the greater for the sorrow" space. I'm a horrible wussy and I doubt I could make it through the Children of Hurin.

But have you ever listened to The Tolkien Professor?
