Dianetics
question
Objective books on Scientology?

I'm rather interested in finding out about Scientology, not as someone who cares about becoming a Scientologist but rather to research and study, and would like to know, seen as much of the literature on this subject is basically propaganda either for or against the religion, which books are objective and scholarly as opposed to erratic and biased. Any help finding such books would be appreciated...
I would like now to answer my own question: Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief by Lawrence Wright is a well written and meticulously researched book on the history of Scientology. His credentials are good and he is a reliable writer. He has an obvious admiration for Hubbard and his achievements but is nothing short of objective, professional and ultimately critical (though not always negatively) in his writing about Scientology, it's founder and the present leaders of the church.
It is a very entertaining and informative work, told through the testimonies of current and former Scientologists, official records (such as L. Ron Hubbard's military records) and many other sources, all of which are included in the book.
I would still like to know of other works if anyone has good suggestions.

It's hard to be objective when it comes to witnessing obvious lunacy.
Yes, I'm sure Paul is a true authority in the field of mental illness. Seriously though, "Dianetics - the Modern Science of Mental Health", is a good place to start and form your own opinion. I found it fascinating, informative, and useful.
You see, why read "about it", when you can "read it"?

The only way to research Scientology is to spend some time reading the books written by its founder. Better still spend some time in a Chruch, do a few courses, receive some auditing. That's real research.
Reading people's comments and ideas on the Internet does not pass as "research".
Being critical without ACTUALLY researching something does not give you grounds to even comment.

Hi Sam, you can get books from any official Scientology website such as: www.scientology.org or www.scientology.org.au. Happy reading.
