Rachael (moosubi) | 57 comments The title says it all, haha :D I'm wondering if a book's cover weighs in on whether you borrow/buy/read the book or not.

Personally, the cover acts as an attractor for me. If the book has a pretty cover, my eyes go to that book first. But recommendations, synopsis and reviews always precede the cover especially if I'm buying a book.

But if I'm in the library and am just grabbing a book quickly, than I'm probably more likely to get a book that has a prettier cover.

What about you guys?

Justine (justinen) I agree. The cover is what draws me in, so unless I am specifically looking for a book then I only pick up colorful or books with beautiful covers.

Kimberly (kimmylam88) | 14 comments I definitely judge a book by its cover. I'll grab the book with the most attractive cover, read the synopsis then check Goodreads for more info then I'll buy the book.
I would nvr even glance at the other unattractive books until its been made into movies. Haha...

Eleanor (elmonore) | 3 comments I look at the cover, and then if I like the synopsis and it has good reviews, I'll read it. If it has a bad front cover, that tends to put me off.

Helen Stevens (helenszone) | 3 comments i think title and cover art are so important. You need those hooks to get potential readers to pick the book up off the shelf and read the back. Dull cover art and a boring title means that book is destined to stay on the shelf, however fantastic it's contents are...

Clara (deaf_eater) | 5 comments Not really, my country always has ugly/boring/weird covers so you only have the synopsis to get you to hand your money over.

Jenn (engelsigh) Attractive or interesting book covers are usually the first thing to catch my eye. I do take the time to read the back of the book to make sure it actually is something I would be interested in. I have been fooled by a beautiful cover in the past. By the same right - I've read some books with really ugly covers that were really good too.

Yes I do sort of. I do tend to gravitate to books that have pretty covers! It cant be helped. but if I read the synopsis and don't like the sound of it, I don't buy it though.

Jessica (jessicap324) For sure, pretty covers make me want to read the book and if it sounds interesting them I'm all over it. There's books I haven't bothered with because the cover is ugly, like Legend, everyone raves about it and I'm just like, but it's so ugly. lmao And one time, close to a year ago, I ordered a book online but got sent the book with a different, ugly cover. I've still yet to read it...

It's so bad but you know, a lot of people go into making that cover, and there's a lot of strategy behind it, so of course you're going to judge it, you're expected to.

Susan (soozfran) | 36 comments Yes since I do avoid the naked-torso-guy covers on romance novels like the plague. That's not lack of originality, that just too lazy to come up with something else. But who knows some of those novels might be ok for all I know.

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 91 comments When I'm at the library, absolutely. I grab what catches my eye and then I read the back to see if I'd like it. Everything I order online I judge by the synopsis and reader reviews because I have the time to look at my own pace, but even then the pretty covers are what I buy the most.

Jojobean No. The cover doesn't matter to me. All I care about is reading the synopsis and see if it interests me. I have put back many a book with a beautiful cover because it's content didn't interest me. I have also taken fugly books and bought them because the content interests me. Of course it's always a plus when the book interets me and has a beautiful cover, but the cover it not necessary for me.

Christen | 7 comments I do actually. I look for new books base on the cover first.

Alyssa Mae | 6 comments I check out book covers first too. It the first one I check when I check out a book but of course it still would not matter if the book does not appeal to me at all.

chinami sometimes

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 18 comments Sometimes. But books with nice covers definitely have more chance of grabbing my attention, so I'm more likely to buy them.

Priya | 8 comments I guess so, but a lot of times books have different covers. Am I the only person who judges a book by it's title?
