message 1: by Liz M (new)

Liz M Know Your ABC’s (ABC) – Read ten books, in alphabetical order, where the author’s last name begins with one of following groups of 10 consecutive letters of the alphabet:
ABCDEFGHIJ JKLMNOPQRS
BCDEFGHIJK KLMNOPQRST
CDEFGHIJKL LMNOPQRSTU
DEFGHIJKLM MNOPQRSTUV
EFGHIJKLMN NOPQRSTUVW
FGHIJKLMNO OPQRSTUVWX
GHIJKLMNOP PQRSTUVWXY
HIJKLMNOPQ QRSTUVWXYZ
IJKLMNOPQR
Scoring:
15.1-3 -- 1st 2nd, 3rd books = 15 points
15.4-6 -- 4th, 5th, 6th books = 20 points
15.7-9 - 7th, 8th, 9th books = 30 points
15.10 -- 10th book = 45 points.

Graduate bonuses:
(A) 75 points if all 10 books are published within any 25-year period (1851-1875, 1932-1956, 1967-1991, etc.). OR
(B) 75 points if the books are read in chronological order (by original publication date) as well as alphabetic order (without repeating a year).
Doctorate bonus:
(C) 200 points if the chain qualifies for both (A) and (B).

The fine print:
1. Just to make selecting books for this sub-challenge more challenging graphic novels, cookbooks, illustrated guides, and YA books with a Lexile score less than 800 are not allowed.
2. You cannot claim regular style points for any book you read for ABC (nor do the ABC tasks count as combo style points for Reading with Style's 10 and 20 point tasks).
3. You can complete ABC twice. You cannot repeat a letter of the alphabet and you cannot wrap the alphabet (ie YZABCDEFGH is not allowed).
