Penny sobbed violently. "Dadddddyyyyyy." She whispered.
Maddy took Penny in her arms. "Sh, Penny, its okay." she said softly.
"I want my daddy. Why is he never here?" Penny moaned, her madness sensor going off the charts. Angrily, she tore the thing off and threw it at the wall. It shattered into a hundred pieces of tech. She sobbed even harder, ending in a scream.
Maddy hugged her. 'Sh, penny, I know. I know.'
((Come on Bruce, put on your daddy legs!))
((Gah, sorry, been sidetracked. :P))Bruce jumped, cringing as the gadget broke. Ouch. He bit his lip, looking over at Penny. Oh he hoped he wouldn't regret this... Bruce stepped over, making his footsteps sure. He reached out and took Penny from Madeline gently, pulling her back into his own arms. He wrapped his arms around the little girl, for that was how he saw her, and gave her a hug. "Shhh," He whispered.
Penny froze, her cry instantly stopping. She just lay there in his arms, not moving an inch. "Papa?" She whispered in confusion. ((:P It's okay))
Bruce shook his head, a little worried as he kept his arms around her comfortingly. "No," He said quietly. "I'm not your dad."
Penny wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his shoulder. "Papa...." She whispered, her whole body shaking.
Bruce felt bad for her. Amid all the evil and terrible things she had done, he still felt bad for Penny. He didn't know why, but it felt right to comfort her. "Don't cry, Penny." He murmered, beginning to rock her back and forth slightly - more or less totally awkward in doing so.
((You know, now that I'm thinking about it, she hasn't done that many 'evil' things. She's mostly just protected herself by lashing out, or doing what her mother tells her, the only way she knows. Hmm.....))Penny began to relax. The rocking was soothing to her. Her eyelids drifted down sleepily.
Lily burst in, wielding two knives and angry red eyes. "What happened?! I heard Penny scream." Then she spotted Bruce with her daughter and her eyes widened to the size of saucers.
Penny didn't seem to care. She cuddled happily closer to Bruce.
((Yeah... Maybe that's why he's subconsciously feeling so bad for her. :P Whatcha planning...? 0.o))Bruce's head shot up as Lily ran in, pausing as he rocked Penny to stare at the mother. "She's fine," He said quietly. "Now." He added, a little ruefully as he began to rock her again. He nodded to the broken gadget on the floor. "She threw a fit."
Madeline nodded. "She said she misses daddy."
((Honey, I'm always planning something. >;) ))Lily didn't look away from Bruce and her daughter, feeling her protective mother instincts rile up again. She bared her teeth angrily and exited the room, keeping her ears pricked in case he tried anything.
Penny fell asleep in Bruce's arms, her breathing soft as her cat ears twitched as she dreamt.
((*eyeroll* I know. Good job. ;) ))Bruce was worried for a second Lily was about to attack him. When she left, however, he let out his breath in relief. Removing Penny gently out of his arms and onto her own bed, Bruce carefully stood up so he didn't wake her.
Madeline smiled. She shyly stuck out her hand to Bruce. "I'm Maddy."
Penny curled into a ball, mumbling about strange things in her sleep as her tail and ears twitched. ((:P))
Bruce glanced over at Maddy, surprised. "Oh," He said quietly. "I'm, uh, I'm Bruce Banner." He said, hesitantly taking the hand.
Maddy grinned briefly. "No Derp, genius.'
Bruce frowned a little and shrugged. "Alright," He said, genuinely wondering what 'derp' meant... He began to make his way to the door quietly.
Maddy grabbed his wrist. 'No." she said, surprisingly firm
Bruce sighed, looking over at Maddy. "Come on," He whispered.
"No. You're staying here.' maddy frowned.
Bruce decided to test the waters. "And what are you going to do to stop me?" He jerked his arm out of her grasp and started towards the door again.
Maddy swooped in and smack his face. "Stay.' she growled.
Bruce stumbled back, rubbing his face. He frowned at Maddy. "No," He reached for the door again.
"Ow," Bruce hit back at her hand this time. "I'm leaving and you can't stop me." He lurched for the door and pulled it open, dissapearing out into the hallway.
Maddy ran after him. She clamped her hand over his neck. 'Don't you dare.' she hissed.
Bruce froze. He swallowed against her hand and looked at her. "You wouldn't dare." He said darkly, watching her face carefully.
"You're right." she said sweetly. "But Lilly would. And I'll do what's necessary."
Bruce scowled at her. "Lily wouldn't get very far." He said grimly. "But go ahead, then."
She took a hold of his wrist and began pulling him back to wherever they just were.
"Madeline." Lily said, emerging from a door to their right. "What on earth are you doing?" She asked, raising her eyebrows.
Bruce tightened his jaw and sighed through his nose, feeling like a child trying to skip school. This was ridiculous.
Maddy gave him a quick glance. "It's true, Lilly."
Lily narrowed her eyes. "Even if he did try to escape, he wouldn't. Since the last time Bruce and Natasha made a raid here, the doors and windows have been locked down with reinforced metal. The only possible way for you to get out is to become the Hulk...." She smiled. "And we all know how much you hate doing that."
Madeline smiled triumphantly at Bruce.
He shot her a look and yanked his arm out of Maddy's grip. Bruce couldn't think of how to get out, honestly. He just wanted to leave, and as soon as possible. He didn't want to, he really really didn't want to... "I will if I have to." He said darkly, glaring at Lily. He didn't really have intimidation thing going for him, but what he meant was obvious.
Lily inclined her head. She suddenly frowned and grabbed hold of Bruce's face, bringing it close to hers. She saw the marks Madeline's hand had made and turned to the girl. "You damage my daughter's present?" She snarled, releasing Bruce to step closer to Madeline.
Maddy bowed her head. "Only temporarily, miss."
Bruce took a step back and grumbled, watching the two carefully.
Lily bared her teeth. "Where is Penny?" She asked, glancing at both of them with hard eyes.
"Ummm... You are Lily, miss." maddy said in confusion.
((Ooops. I MEANT PENNY.))
((OH lol)) Maddy nodded towards the place they were just at. "She should be in there.'
As they spoke, Penny shuffled out of the room, holding a teddy bear in her arms. Her eyes were hazy with sleep. "Mama, where's Bruce?" She asked. Lily went to her daughter and lifted Penny onto her hip. "He's right here, sweetie."
Madeleine smiled. She lived penny.
