I hope you — and Phrynne — enjoy it more than I did!

Most awful depressing crap. But lots of other people thought it was hilarious.

I knew I wouldn't enjoy that - thanks Han!

Kerri | 375 comments I could not stand This Is How You Lose Her and can't understand why it was so popular. I also used to have to finish every book I started, but not anymore. If I am not enjoying reading something, I move onto the next.

Just so you are prepared; there are very few high points in this novel, no great drama/melodrama; it just goes along in the same vein. I thought the writing wonderful but many who need action etc do not think the same as me. Good luck:)

If the writing is good then I am usually good too:)

message 208: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Page (cassandrapage) My least favourite book is probably New Moon, the second Twilight book. Bella's decision to engage in highly risky behaviour because she wanted to provoke what she thought were delusions of her boyfriend's voice horrified me. A lot. Talk about flirting with suicide.

I was surprised by how much A Game of Thrones bored me. I felt like I should like it, but I didn't - a lot of the characters were so unlikeably that I didn't care about them, and so when it came to their turn to be the POV character I just stopped reading. (I tried the TV show and didn't get past the first episode either.)

Just quietly (very quietly) I agree with you wholeheartedly about A Game of Thrones

message 210: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments Yeah, New Moon was bad for that, wasn't it? At least she realised, even before Edward came back, that that kind of behaviour was not the best.

message 211: by Emily (new)

Emily Morgan (emilymmorgan) | 15 comments The first one that comes to mind is The Passage - I didn't like its tone and its storylines didn't seem to be well thought out. I found it frustrating and irritating. Though I still read the second one, hoping for better. Did not get it though :(

message 212: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Thanks B for the info on The Tree Of Man. I'm really curious about it. And I've been pretty excited about that one.

Phrynne, you made me laugh about I Am Legend. In my in person book group we read it and I was the only one who reacted this way. Most people liked it. Every now and then a book is just wrong for you, you know?

I'm not even trying A Game of Thrones. I haven't heard one thing that makes me think I would like it. And I HATE it when I love characters and they die off!

message 213: by Fliss (new)

Fliss Blanch | 1 comments The Catcher in the Rye Cannot.Stand.That.Book. Hated the writing but hated Holden Caulfield even more. I thought he was a pretentious upstart. He is the type of person I would avoid at all costs in real life.

It was horrible, wasn't it? I don't remember what I thought of it in school but I read it a few years ago and I cannot figure out why it's a classic! There's a reason it's found in the possession of so many assassins and killers, I'm convinced.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I'm hiding under the dining room table and typing this with just two finger in view of my screen because I'm afraid of people's reaction to: I intensely disliked The Rosie Project. Predictable, not humourous at all with a m/c who a pain in the butt.

Tango | 290 comments Funny how several of these are favourites of mine. To each their own!

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments It's good that we are all different and appreciate different books.

Dana | 144 comments Re: B the BookAddict The Rosie Project

Although I didn't hate it, I certainly was (and still am) at a loss to understand the hype surrounding this, in my opinion very average book. The only way I would be tempted to read the follow up is if I cannot find another "R" book for my Summer reading challenge.

I definitely agree. Having what we perceive as good and bad adds depth to our reading. There are plenty I don't like but I wouldn't want to alter the variety in the market. Variety is what makes reading fun. I'm sure I'll read many many more that I dislike. It keeps me on my toes.

I actually have no desire to read The Rosie Project.

That's why this group is so good - we can discuss our likes and dislikes; our differences of opinion without censure! So out from under that table Bette;)

I do know what you mean - it took me about 3/4 of the novel to warm to him. But unlike you, in the end I did (warm to him) and gave it 4 stars, from memory. I'm not in a rush to read the sequel though.

message 222: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 143 comments I had to put The Rosie Project down, I hated it so much. Almost 50 Shades-ish the hype around this book, that IMHO just doesn't deserve it. (Neither did 50 Shades)

I thought The Rosie Project was a delight. And Fifty Shades of Grey was hilarious.

I don't think a book can be a masterpiece until it is loved by some and hated by others.

It can be a bit hard though admitting we dislike a popular book...or admitting we like a book that most people think is crap.

That's pretty much my response too, Andrea. Just didn't want to read the sequel. It was a case of enough was enough.
