SPRING CHALLENGE TASK SUGGESTIONS

I love these challenges, and I can tell the spring one is going to be great!!

This one might need a little tweaking...Ask your mother (or mother figure) or daughter/daughter figure (if you don't have a mother figure) what her favorite book is and read it.

Read a book whose title contains two opposites (such as black and white, hot and cold) - doesn't have 2 be exact opposites but....you get the idea

I think we've done this but a book with any color in the title (for Easter dyed eggs and spring flowers)

I like the idea of having another TNBBC member choose one of the books to read - but it could be indirectly - like choose from another challenge participant's TBR or already read list.

like it too but it would be hard task, even 25 points wouldn't be a lot for it. i mean I would have to read five books but some people much more than that!

i wouldn't be able to do that one... but maybe a friend would be okay too or boyfriend or somebody close to you.

I'm not sure I'd want someone to straight-up pick a book for me, but I'd be cool with them picking.. 5 or 10 and then I choose one... or picking off of someone else's to-read list... or reading a book that another person rated 5 stars.

I think it is risky but it can be very surprising and like and adventure!

Surprising, definitely. Adventure... probably.... Enjoyable? Yeah.................... maybe. I just... don't like... unhappy endings... *shrugs*

What if they chose THREE and then we picked one? That way, we have a TINY bit of freedom... I mean, I would pick really great books for others (in my opinion), but they would be easy, fun reads at least.

Let's be honest. I'm just afraid someone's going to make me read Gone With the Wind (HATED the movie), or Lord of the Flies, or something equally revolting.

Maybe we could just do our initials instead of our whole name? (The original post was something along the lines of read a book that starts with each letter of your first name--if I'm remembering correctly!

Initials would be fair as everyone gets the same number, although as is more than one book, is quite a lot of work for 1 task unless 25pnts

Gross. Why would I want to read about gardening?? That ones of those subjects that you should read about if you want to do it, but if not... why waste your time?

No, I had an idea, but now I'm going, "Ummm... to torture myself or not to torture myself... that is the question." I had another idea, but it's so similar to one of the current tasks, that I'm not sure about it.

What I really want to do is make everyone read a young adult fiction book, but that's not worth 25 pts. Can we have that as a regular task? To read a YA book?

Also, I know people have not much cared for the Dec/Jan/Feb book task, but I don't think March/April/May would be too bad. I mean, there have got to be TONS and TONS of books with the word "may" in them! And "march", too! This is going to be the best challenge to do a month-title task in.

I would think YA books could be a 5 point task, but I wouldn't think it should really pass for more.

Agreed. For a general "read a YA book" task, no more than 5 points. However, there are many YA books that are fairly substantial pieces of literature, which I think should count toward other tasks.

How about something like "read a book about books" or "read a book about reading" or "read a book about an author"? Something like those?

if we have the month title thing again it would be allright if it was one task -April May or June in the title, as you say lots of choice, i did see in another challenge (when there was less imput probably) - that they did it in 3 seperate tasks, that would be a bit painful but cant see that happening with so many other great ideas coming up

For the fall challenge we had three separate tasks to read a book with the word Sept, Oct, and Nov... that was a rough one!! I like it better this time where you get to choose the month!

Cassie I'll post the task list on the 22nd - that will give everyone a week to line up the books they wish to use and ask preliminary questions. I'll post the 25 point challenges as the winter challenge winners send them to me. So far Ros & El have both earned the maximum points available - the top 3 point earners are the ones who get to select the 25 point challenges - but if more than 3 people complete the challenge then we will have more than 3 25 point tasks.

I don't think that's lame at all- I actually like it a lot!
I love the other one that says go to your bookshelf and point with your eyes closed- I've been wanting to do that for awhile on my own and haven't gotten around to it yet!

That is definitely a cool part of the challenge for me also. I had a lot of fun pulling my choices out last time and seeing what I didn't have and had to get..of course. LOL

That's cool about the 25 point tasks- I'll have to make a stronger attempt at finishing this time.
I was reading a lot of books during the winter challenge that couldn't be used- it was my first one so I wasn't aware of everything that goes with it.
My goal for this one won't be to just get as far as I can- it'll be to finish it! :D

Bonnie just finished, so yes. We're at three finishers now. I don't know about the other people who are up on the list, but I have every intention of finishing. I only have 4 books left. I just need to think of a good task....

Good luck Sara! I dropped out a little while ago because I knew I had to read some books (for friends) that couldn't be used for any task.
I'm looking forward to the new one though and I'm dead set on finishing it this time! LOL

I think I'm going to work backward. I have a few books I really want to read, so I think I'll come up with a category for one of them. Fortunately, the list will probably be posted before I finish up my books, so I can wait to decide. :)

I'm excited too! I'm in the middle of going through all of my books and sorting them alphabetically. That'll only make it easier to look through and pick my choices! LOL Hopefully I'll get done in time- it's slow going. :D

The only "carryover" is that if you complete the Winter Challenge, you get to pick a category for the Spring Challenge, but everyone starts over with the reading.

I'm excited to pick all new books. I went to two bookstores yesterday (local used book store and half-price books), and was looking around. I saw a bunch of great stuff, but I kept thinking, "I can't buy anything! I don't know what the new categories are going to be!" :)

That is so funny Sara! I was ordering off of amazon and B&N two nights ago and I was holding back myself. I ordered the ones I just couldn't live without (this week) and made myself wait for the rest until I see this challenge. LOL

Alright, I have a last-minute suggestion -- don't know if it's too late to make one! I'd save it for the next challenge, but it's definitely a spring one:

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day (April 21) read a fiction or nonfiction book about the Holocaust.

It's a different kind of task too- not the average run of the mill task.
