You will be suprised with the twists in this story. I was!

Monday is fine with me. I have to finish a review book, too.

Lys (lysrowan) Monday is good. I have so much planning to do before classes start!

Do you have to have read the night hunt series to read this one?

I don't think so...I haven't read the Night Huntress series yet. From what I understand, it's a spin off of the characters but a completely different series.

I asked someone who's read them both...I'll let you know what she says :)

Ok, I'm through section 4...one more to go. I'm pretty sure I won't get to it tonight. The book is definitely not going where I thought it would.

No, you don't. The Night Hunter Series was great. I love Cat and Bones.

So I ended up staying up to finish last night...darn books, but then, who needs sleep?

I'll write out thoughts later tonight. I really liked the book but not really the ending. I can't really pinpoint it, but something felt like it was missing to me. I'll think on it today and see if I can come up with it.

Sherry, I agree. The ending was a little flat to me. I liked the book over all.

Wach out for spoilers if you haven't finished yet!

I haven't been able to come up with what I thought was missing at the end, but I guess I just wanted something more to happen. The whole time I was reading the last section I was thinking that Aiden was going to betray her and turn her in, or better yet Alyssa would show up while they were together. That would have made for some drama.

I guess I felt the whole last section was too rushed. I would have loved an extra chapter on the end to tell how everything played out. What happened to Aiden and Alyssa? What is Hannah going to do in Canada? Though, I think any good book gets into your mind and leaves you with questions.

What do you think of the whole Simone thing? Was there a point to it? Just to show how rebellious Hanna had gotten, or the fact that she's searching to find out who she is?

Overall, I liked the book. I never really connected with Hannah, but I did like how she questioned everything and was always looking for answers.

If I can get a copy ya lol. I'm on the part where she just watched the vid while waiting in the room for Simone to get back. I didn't see this all coming either. Not sure how I feel about it.

Melissa (melstephensbooks) Just finished it. Not at all how I thought it would end. I'm kind of confused by the last sentence. This was such a unique book. I don't think I've read anything like it before.

I didn't understand the whole Simone thing. She was so in love with Aiden but then felt betrayed and abandoned by him. Hannah said, she respected Simone and was grateful she rescued her twice. I think due to the emotional state she was in and the drugs she was given that it led to the affair with Simone. She could be rebelling against everything she once believed in.

I think bc she had gone so many days without physical human contact, like a hug, and so many days without someone taking care of her that she cared for Simone after she saved her. She said something about "she hadn't been cherished in months". And it's true that it might be rebellion. This was around the time she decides not to put herself in anymore boxes so when the thought pops in her mind to touch Simone she doesn't hold herself back anymore.

Melissa, you are right. She felt like she lost everyone she loved and didn't know what her future held. She wanted to have that human contact. She wanted someone to look past her red skin and see the person she was underneath.

message 69: by Lys (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lys (lysrowan) Hehe, I was waiting to see the Simone discussion flare up. A lot of the reviewers had problems with this part of the book and what they perceived as Jordan attempting to cash in on LGBT "hype". I never got any sense that Hannah was becoming a "lesbian" - I think that you guys have hit it pretty well with her need to take comfort and be cherished. I also don't think it was a matter of rebellion so much as control - Hannah took control of her body and sexuality by embracing Simone and then went on to do the same with Aiden. Likewise, she took control of her life - demanding certain options or freedoms from this point onward. I think this was a turning point for Hannah because she decided how much control she was willing to take and how much she was willing to give up and she *made* people listen to her after this. It really didn't bother me that she had an affair with Simone, but I also didn't see it as necessary - it was symbolic and metaphorical, but any number of other acts could have been too.

message 70: by Lys (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lys (lysrowan) Oh, it also seemed like Simone was being used to further some of Jordan's own philosophy of religion. Like maybe she needed to be important in this story for Jordan to have her say regarding certain things.

I agree. I'm reading an e version and I highlighted half of Simone's quotes in that chapter lol. And Hannah wasn't really interested in females or she would have had sex with Simone when she came back and she wouldn't have bothered to see aiden again and have sex with him. I like what you were saying about it being control not rebellion. That makes sense

Valerie Zink | 40 comments Yikes! I am a teacher and just got back to school so I am woefully behind. I have finished first section and like it so far. I plan to catch up and finish it this weekend! Made sure I did not read too many comments! But I saw "Simone" Do you think that character was named after Simone de Beauvoir ( I think that is the name)of "The Second Sex" fame?

I think she was (if I remember right). It says, I think in the last section, where they got their names.

What do you teach?

Valerie Zink | 40 comments I have this cool gig where I get to teach accelerated math to middle schoolers. Those who have high math skills have to test in and then they get to be two years ahead and start taking high school credit. I go nuts the first three weeks testing and placing kids!

:)

Lys (lysrowan) Simone de Beauvoir is my hero(ine)! And yes, it was after her. Have you read her Ethics of Ambiguity? It's amazing.

Valerie Zink | 40 comments I have not read that! It sound awesome.

That sounds like an awesome program! Math was not my strongest subject in school. I have struggled helping my daughter with her math homework due to the new math they are teaching.

Valerie Zink | 40 comments I have the kindle edition and there is nothing at the end with name explanations. No biggie. I rated it 2 stars. I think I am getting extraordinarily picky. I had a hard time really relating to the characters at all. I think the book was written well enough, but I got irritated with the religious message (though it really was a positive one) and I just could not connect. I would have liked to have the character maybe go through more in the world and learn more about that, I guess. It seemed also to wrap up far too quickly in the end, though by then I liked Hannah a Lot more!

Valerie Zink | 40 comments Alyssia wrote: "Hehe, I was waiting to see the Simone discussion flare up. A lot of the reviewers had problems with this part of the book and what they perceived as Jordan attempting to cash in on LGBT "hype". I..."

I agree. It also happened after Simone was so tender and sweet in taking care of Hannah. She needed love and comfort and it seems that that love and comfort does not have a "gender" attached to it here. She ultimately gave both of them up anyway..

Both Aiden and the mom are totally weak people, in my opinion. Hannah shows herself to be ultimately stronger and braver than both of them! Aiden even says so as does Kayla.

I felt sorry for Hannah. She put her faith and trust in a man who manipulated her. She wasn't innocent. She made choices that had dire consequences. Aiden was weak. He didn't resist temptation to have an affair with Hannah. He stayed married to his wife not out of love but as a penance. He also didn't come forward to say he was the father of Hannah's baby.
