Name Dropping

So I'm 20% thru and I'm noticing a lot of name dropping. Is anyone else finding it? If so are you find it distracting?
Like when he mentioned the Anime or the K-Pop group by name when the name isn't that important to the story it feels like it's just a video game insider trying to make sure we all know he's a video game insider.
Outside of that my complains are minimal. I think Ben keeps ordering things wrong. (examples if you want) and I think he tends to write this book for people who won't read this book. Things like explaining what a first person shooter is doesn't make sense because ANYONE reading this book knows what a first person shooter is and anyone reading we can expect knows what "first person" means. We have to assume a little thing called reading comprehension.
