Let me preface this by saying, for those of you that don't know me - I suck at computers! Okay, now that that is out of the way! Going on... I was so proud of myself for setting up a Pintrest account and I had a board for my book. I was pinning different pics of locations, some different special desserts that might have been used in the book, pics of actors/actresses that I imagine my characters looking like and also songs that I hear during certain scenes. Then I read a really scary blog post from Roni Loren regarding using pics! Check it out!! Even though the pic/songs were there already, you can get sued for using copyrighted stuff! Seriously!!! She immediately took down the picture but that wasn't enough! So... there went my Pintrest interest (heehee-word play!) and my brave new computer skill!

J.K. Hogan (jkhogan) | 4 comments Personally, I think that posting your imagery online in a public forum with no watermark or copyright prevention is sort of asking for it... What if we posted one of our books on a website and said, okay you can look at it, but don't share it or show it to anyone. You're forfeiting a certain amount of ownership at that point. But alas, the law is the law. I never much got the point of pinterest anyway. :)

The Internet is a weird bizarro..."

That's what Roni said!!!! so frustrating, that in all reality, people posting pics on Pintrest does nothing but actually give that picture MORE exposure, but everybody's greedy and wants their piece of the pie!

I totally get that, but like I told Joe, more exposure is really just 'more exposure' :) ... idk, I deleted mine out of fear! LOL...

De Jr. (deann_native) | 1 comments Hola, sonrisa... I can understand each point of view.... I have posted my books cover and the Artworks that are also throughout my book and I agree with the exposure aspect of the conversation.... My works are all copyrighted and in Pintrest states in it's rules that you have to siempre add a link or source from which the photos are from....so anyone going on this site will be integrated with a footprint so it can be traced.... Unfortunately technology has become more difficult the easier it gets to maneuver through the net.... But we should do research and protect ourselves accordingly.....

I agree totally De Ann! As amazing as the Internet is, and how life is just so much easier, the flip side is just as dangerous and scary!

Jacqueline Hopkins (jacqueline-hopkins) I read with interest what happened to Roni Loren and it made me go check my own blog for pictures that I didn't give credit to. Thank goodness I only had to delete one, the other pictures on my blog I took.

But not to sway anyone here to keep their Pinterest page or not, Kristen Lamb wrote about it on her blog and created a place for people to share their photos on flikr called Wana Commons. Recently she wrote a post about Pinterest after the Roni Loren situation. Here is a link if anyone is interested in reading what she had to say:

http://warriorwriters.wordpress.com/2...

I am keeping my Pinterest page for now and have the wait and see attitude. If I get sued, they can't get money from someone who doesn't have any, lol. That's my way of thinking anyway. Amy, if you don't want me to post this kind of stuff on here, please let me know.

Thanks

What an awesome article! Thank you so much!!! I feel better now. It just frustrates me to no end how sue happy this world is.. And I love how she has a place that we can get "safe" pictures :) Thank you for putting that link up... and no, I'm glad to have the info, feel free!

Jacqueline Hopkins (jacqueline-hopkins) Great. I have posted about 16 photos of my own on her new flikr WANA Commons and plan to post a lot more once I find them all to scan in, lol. Glad I could post this and hope we all can find a happy medium about posting our photos somewhere it will be safe to do so. Totally agree with you on how sue happy people are...seems some do it as a way to make a living and that really irks me, lol.

P.T. Macias (ptmacias) | 2 comments This is a great concern to all. I did take down all the book covers of the authors. Now I'm asking if it's okay to pin their book covers. I still have to take down the hunks, but it so hard.
