Laya laughed. "I didn't understand half of what he said because it was some type of joke. But he is the master of all pranks. He pulled at least four on me. Almost all of them were so classic I didn't think he would do them. He's genius."

Laya ran in ahead of everyone else and sat down at the Gryffindor table.

Alex joined his friends at the Ravenclaw table. They talked about their summers when finally McGonagal spoke.

Laya stared up at McGonagol as she talked. After a while, the hat came out, and first years came out. She clapped along with everyone else. "Whoo!"

Alex watched the kids' fear. The ones with the A last names always had it the worst.

Laya felt sorry for the first years, but it was so fun to watch. The first kid sat up there. "Hufflepuff!" The second kid. "Ravenclaw!" She smiled.

Alex and a bunch or other Ravenclaws congratulated the Ravenclaw kid. He whistled.

"Gryffindor!" The hat called. "Whoo!" She screamed and whistled, patting the kid on the back. After a lot of other kids, the food came.

Now the kids were done being sorted. He had a few new kids around him. He began talking to them, then decided to give them a little scare.

Laya wondered when her 'welcome back' thing would start... She looked at a clock. It would be soon, now. A few kids looked at her, worried. Ah, they already knew trouble when it was coming...

Alex looked at Laya. He saw her look at the clock. Something was coming. He braced himself.

She smiled and bit her lip in preparation. She looked at Alex and put her hand up. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... There was an explosion in the room, like fireworks. The lights took the shapes of everything, people, dragons, trees, griffins. Nearly Headless Nick stared at it, laughing. Laya laughed as well. She had set this up last year... It said 'Welcome back to Hogwarts!' and went out.

Ah, he forgot about the usual "Welcome back" fiasco. He laughed when many of the 1st years screamed.

Laya laughed when the first years panicked. A few people who were used to this patted her on the back, and she made a show of standing on the table and bowing. "Miss Whitson! Sit down!" She hopped back down to eat.

Alex laughed some more. He couldn't wait...

Laya looked over at Alex suspiciously. She stood up with the excuse of going to the bathroom, looking at him pointedly.

Alex wasn't stupid. He got the sign. He excused himself and walked out of the grand hall.

"And what are you planning, Alex? I know that look anywhere." Laya asked, grinning.

He smiled. "Well..." he began "I don't think we scared the little kids enough." His smile widened. "I want to hear all of them scream."

Laya cracked up. "And how are we doing that?"

Laya laughed a little more. "You're the one with the idea... But you're right..." She got an idea. "Give me a second!" She ran down the hall and came back with a little box. "Give it to a random first year, and tell them don't open it until after everything. They'll open it during dinner." She smirked.

He smiled. "Can I know what's in it?" He took the box.

Laya thought it over. "Weeeell... Not really... It's one of three things. It will either make the ceiling go haywire, make the room go black, or make the plates and all that fly around... I don't know which one."

He furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean you don't know?"

"Well, when I bought it, it was called a 'secret box'. It said 'Take one and see what you get! Will you mess up magic in the room, turn out the lights, or will everything go flying!' or something like that. So, it will do one of those three." She grinned a little bit.

"Interesting..." He hopped out of the room and soon found his target. He was a Slytherin 1st year. He took off his tie, he knew the other Slytherins would suspect something, and handed him the box. "Welcome to hogwarts" He smiled. "But don't open it until everything is finished." He walked away. It wouldn't be long now, he knew Slytherins were greedy. He put his tie back on.

Laya walked in just in time to see Alex handing the box to some Slytherin. She sat down and watched the kid slowly open it. Oh, shoot... It was a two in one... The ceiling was suddenly a storm and all the rest of the light went out. It was like a black fog.

A two in one? Awesome. He smiled, although nobody could see him, it was pitch black. He wondered what the teachers were doing. Hopefully nobody had seen him...

Screams were everywhere, except for the people that cursed under their breath and said, "Damn it, Laya." She laughed and ran over to the Ravenclaw table, which she could barely make out. "Alex?"

He heard his name, poor Laya. She was talking to some random guy, thinking it was him. "Over here!"

She tried walking over to him, but first years were scrambling out. She tripped over someone's foot and fell, but couldn't get back up. Too many people...

Alex chuckled when Laya fell, but then realized she wasn't getting up. Oh God, those 1st years were probably trampling her. The grinning stopped immediately and he got up and started to go over to her.
