I think I got so excited about "The Secret Keeper" that I told everyone to read it because I wanted to discuss the ending.

I watched that movie on an aeroplane - bad plan! I must have looked like an absolute mess. We lived in the Pilbara for 16 years, and the movie makers got the period dressing and characterisations so right!

I've done the opposite - I watched the Big Bang theory back to back series on a plane a few years back - I was laughing helplessly out loud. Every one was looking at me and laughing at my laughter. Not in a nasty way. Even the hosties were chuckling as they walked past.

Amelia | 3 comments Australian author John Larkin's book "The Pause" by far has to be my favourite book for this year, maybe even all time. It was funny, tear-jerking and uplifting. Give it a go! You won't be disappointed.

Ryan Thomas Keneally's The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith is dark and poetic and very, very good.

It's based on real life events part of which occurred a couple of hundred kilometres to the south-west of where I live.

Stef Rozitis I do love children's and (some) YA books. To this end I have to recommend my idols Garth Nix along with recently discovered Sean Williams

also Morris Gleitzman

and I think this one is Australian (she's certainly a genius) Isobelle Carmody also I like Jackie French I don't always agree with her sort of liberal feminist take on things but I LOVE the complexity and intricacy of her writing

For younger readers I still can't get past Emily Rodda

I am raving over how good Australians All by Nadia Wheatley is!

I recently read The Year It All Ended by Kirsty Murray set in and around my hometown Adelaide which was so lovely to read!

I need to keep searching for a 5 star (in my humble opinion) adult book by an Australian author. I choose to accept this mission!

Stef, might I suggest you have a look at Ronan's Echo...based on the books you have liked here, I think you might like it ;)

message 214: by Graham (new)

Graham | 15 comments Speaking of YA, a fellow author of mine released her debut novel in February:

Akarnae (The Medoran Chronicles, #1) by Lynette Noni

The book is plugged as being Narnia meets Harry Potter meets X-Men, though everyone I talk to thinks it's more awesome than all of them!

Lynette's book is currently on sale at Amazon for 99c, a deal that lasts only for a week, so get in while you can!

Cheers,

Graham

Thanks, I will have a look :) um....it's not romance is it? I can cope with some romance in a book but don't think I could read one that was mainly straight romance.

Stef, do you love Juliet Marillier too? She is a New Zealand writer but I love her historical fantasy. My Favourite series so far is The Bridie Chronicles (3 books). However all her books are divine reads.
