Thanks Luke for sharing all this...I still haven't read Oscar and Lucinda but I've had it awhile! I have also picked up The Mystery of a Hansom Cab and haven't read it either!

I have his most recent as well, an autographed copy from when I met him on his release tour back in November last year:) Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves by Matthew Reilly ...I also haven't read it yet!

Riley Banks (rileybanks) | 14 comments Sounds good Brenda. Not sure if that's the one I've got or not. Know it's a Scarecrow one though. Have you ever read the one based in South America? Some kind of treasure hunt one. Temple I think. Quite enjoyed that. And loved Ice Station, despite its unbelievability at times.

Yes, I loved all his earlier ones...I read the Seven Deadly Wonders, but haven't read The Six Sacred Stones or The Five Greatest Warriors: A Novel as I didn't enjoy the first one as much as the earlier ones...I have them here and have been assured they are excellent, and I should read them!! I will get there....lol

No they are wonderful for that Dale:)

Riley Banks (rileybanks) | 14 comments I don't think that Matthew Reilly is the most brilliant writer, as in he isn't about to win any nobel prizes for literature - but he is very good at keeping his readers entertained, and to me, that is all that counts. I'd rather be enthralled in a book that was frowned upon by the literary snobs than bored to death in a book they considered worthwhile.

Me too. Some of the prize winners are so boring.

And boy, haven't there been some terrible ones that have won awards!! It makes you wonder who does the choosing...lol

Jim (jimbreads) Last night I stayed up too late to finish Past the Shallows. It's been a long time since a book has moved me quite like that. I wasn't sobbing at the end, I was bawling. I've formed all sorts of bonds with characters in the past, but I don't think any have entered my heart quite like Miles did - at some parts of the book I honestly wanted to adopt him! An amazing piece of writing! I can't wait to see what else Favel Parrett comes up with.

I too enjoyed your review Lynxie. So much so that I wonder if I can add my book to your list for a future review? However, I am in a different genre - that of memoir. If you have the time and inclination I can gift you a free download if I have your Kindle download details. Cheers, June

message 81: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie | 715 comments Ooh. Thanks June! I can't say I have ever read a memoir before. I would be happy to add your book to my TBR list, it would be around #50... Do it would be a bit of a wait. If you don't mind, I can PM you my email address.

Let me know :)

message 84: by L.M. (last edited Feb 22, 2013 08:06PM) (new)

L.M. May (ellem_lmmay) hi - new member trying to contribute to the conversation :) I am still new to goodreads and social networking as well!

WOW where to start. I love so many of our Australian writers!

Maybe I will focus on young adult and children, as my son and I have read so many wonderful Australian authors.

LOVED LOVED LOVED all of these (yes me, not just my son, and I am fast approaching 40!)

John Marsden especially the tomorrow series
Emily Rodda (well I love most of her stuff)
Two Weeks With The Queen I have read this book several times and it still makes me cry
Garth Nix
John Flanagan

A few of my favourite adult authors are

Bryce Courtney especially his earlier works
Tim Winton - Cloudstreet
Kate Grenville
Traci Harding
I also remember loving 'Hanging at Picnic Rock' when I was younger.

And now I'm having a brain blank.

I haven't tried Judy Nunn yet but keep meaning to

Have any of you heard of an author called Jennifer Bacia who hit it big internationally about ten years ago? In case you didn't know, she has gone indie!! Wahoo - that means brilliant books for an awesome price!!

Vicki Tyley is another indie author who is Australian. I read her first book 'Fatal Liaison' and really enjoyed it. I have yet to read her others but hear they only get better!!

Mish | 3601 comments Hi LM,

Great list of Authors there.

No I haven't heard ofJennifer Bacia but will look into her books. Thankyou :)

The only Judy Nunn book I've read so far is Maralinga and it's really good.

I really enjoyed his first novel and the story behind it (as in his road to publishing it) but I just couldn't get into Ice Station I never tried him again after that. If I wanted to give him another try, what would you suggest I start with? (If you don't mind my asking)

I added this to my read list, then read your review and have already bought it!! I think I have just found my next read, I am so excited to have found an Australian Indie. Not only that it was only $0.99, and has lots of good reviews and is ranking quite well at 8314.
