Keith Wolters | 2 comments I finished chapter 17 (The Trial). Wow! Great last two chapters but seems like he's about as low as he can get.

Melanie (mel1206) | 8 comments hmmm ... he has not faced the worst that can happen to him yet. However you will get a better understanding of what happened in ch. 17 as you progress. You will see :-) I just finished today

Bryek | 273 comments It really does get better. he's low now but there is a reason for that.

Kamil | 372 comments the whole trilogy and what happen to fitz can be seen as (each misfortune being a little rock that rolls from the slope of a mountai) a prelude to the real suffering

Tara (rohain) | 6 comments According to my Kindle I am 43% the way through, chapter 11, and I am already wondering if I am going to make it through the book. Although I know that Robin Hobb is a big name in fantasy (my favorite genre) I am really not feeling this book for some reason. I can't really put my finger on the problem, but I will keep on going. Maybe read something else then come back to it.

Bryek | 273 comments the book starts out really slow Tara. Try to make it to about 55-60%. He starts do do stuff and learn some interesting things at this point and then the intensity ramps up from there. Hobb does a lot of world building and character development in the first 50%

You can double that as he suffers greatly throughout the Tawny Man as well.

Good to know...I really didn't want to give it up, but I think I can push through if stuff will start happening soon. Thanks

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) Hobb has a very methodical writing style, and I think to really enjoy her you have to change your mindset a bit (at least I did). If you're constantly looking to be hooked with big super action fantasy tropes, you'll miss some great stuff. Instead, if you just get in the mindset that you're going to read the book all the way though, sit back, and enjoy the ride, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

It does sneak up on you. It started off so slowly and then suddenly it was over - before I knew it I was downloading the next one.

Jack (Reader Reborn) (readerreborn) Yes. I think V made a good point in the S&L ep about how Fitz doesn't have a straight forward hero's quest and goal and how it's more about his life, fluid, (she put it differently), but that shouldn't detract from how enjoyable the book is.

Claire (c2111) | 5 comments i love this book, stick with it, i read it years ago you have me all excited so i might have to buy it and read again, Enjoy ;)

Jessy (jessyanelfatheart) | 38 comments I have to say I respect Hobb for keeping me interested. It started a little slow but had good character development. Then I was sucked in from about chapter 10 thru 17 and could barely put the book down for menial things like sleep. But last night I finished chapter 17 and am so sad and frustrated for Fitz. I'm not a fan of always having a happy ending but I sure hope in the last few chapters he gets somebody on his side, poor guy.

Kristi (kristis_reads) | 6 comments Well as someone who has read all of the Trilogy within a Trilogy I'll just say expect to read the Tawny Man Trilogy if you want to read the completion of Fitz's story...

Michael | 3 comments I agree that it takes forever to get to 60%, but the last 40% will fly by. I felt that way about the entire series. I enjoyed the characters but didn't quite get to the love them and can't put it down point.

Ken (KGratten) | 34 comments I found the book getting extremely difficult to make it through at about ch17. Too depressing. Too much crap lumped on poor Fitz. However, I powered through and have almost finished it. It definitely got better, but it still isn't quite what I expected (which in a way is a very good thing).
