I like it how people assume you've read a book.
I like it how people assume you've read a book.Well, I haven't read that since I was about six. My dad used to read it to me and my brother. I remember almost nothing from the plot, but we do have a beautiful copy.
As for the movie, I can't wait to see it. The trailer was awesome.
I haven't read it since I was 14 but I like how Bilbo got along with the Dwarves and Gandalf on the journey. I think it was then that you see him really coming out of this shell and becoming adventurous little by little.

Yeah. You notice it as time goes on - in the beginning he's torn between the two sides of him but slowly - though I'm not done yet - he's choosing the one, or maybe merging them.

*SPOILER DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT*
*SPOILER DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT* I just read it! I haven't finished it......but I got past the part where the dragon got killed....was anyone else surprised that it wasn't Bilbo that killed him, but a random town guy?????

Pirl, no matter how old a book thread is members are still welcome to use it to discuss the book.
Maddie, I read the book several years ago, so I don't remember that part. I bet it was disappointing though.

How did you like The Hobbit? I couldn't get into it. I just didn't enjoy it.
Do you have a favorite part, quote, or character? No, not really. I only read about half of it. I do quite like Gandalf though.
Will you be continuing with the rest of the series? Perhaps. I haven't decided.

I read the Hobbit about 4 and a half years ago and quite enjoyed it. It was fun to read about Bilbo'd great adventure and all the magical things he came across. All the characters were good (as far as I can remeber) but I loved Bilbo the best. I tried to continue with the rest of the series, but for 10 y/o me the Lord of the Rings was too slow and the writing was a little too comlex.

Shahdia, it's too bad you didn't enjoy it.
Lilac, that's good!
I think the main reason I didn't particularly like it was because a middle school English teacher forced us to read it. But I really loved the movie, so I'm thinking about giving the book another chance.
